Iternera

The world of Itenera was an accidental discovery when a magical spell to create a doorway to a demonic realm in which the Empire of Worlds has been doing battle with for the last ten thousand years backfired. The arch mages casting the spell were caught off guard at first when the miscasting of the spell threw them to the wall. Their initial thoughts were of the demonic forces pouring through the now unguarded hole between their realms. Much to their surprise, nothing crossed the rift. A few of them took note of the odd verdant glow to the rift which was not the normal reddish-brown hue from the demonic realms.   Over the course of the next three weeks, a shield was erected and the unknown portal was placed under heavy guard. The mages had hoped the mistake would just dissipate in time and close of it's own volition. However, this proved to be counter to their beliefs as it continued unabated and showed no signs of weakening. It was eventually determined that their mistake had turned into an honest to Gods, solid connection to another world or plane of existence. A volunteer was sought to venture through.   One of the tower guards volunteered after being promised the compensation of an early retirement from her position. In true fashion of an Empire Equites, she stepped through the portal only to return a handful of minutes later with stories of a vast land, obviously breathable atmosphere, and no hostiles in sight. Land, as she put it, "Another ripe branch for the Empire."   Upon being informed, the Empress herself visited the Magi Tower and gave a formal proclamation that this newly discovered world be added to their holdings. She instructed that the Magi prepare and reconfigure their tower to support the deployment of a vast quantity of individuals as well as full Legions to this new land to bring it under their control. The Empress placed Baroness Charles in full control of the project after some internal squabbles over who should hold the honor of expanding into this new world.
