Itaska

Focusing mainly on the region east of the Minn Mountains known as Itaska, the story begins with Citlali (raised as Stella) and her return to her family.   Raised in a cult-like town on the other side of the Balic Desert named Dunning, Stella grows up under the thumb of her oppressive mother and her indifferent father. After an accident resulting with the death of Lord Dunning and nearly murdering her mother, Stella escapes with two strangers who decide to offer her their help after somehow discovering she belongs to their Clan, the Itaska Wolf Clan.   After nearly being robbed and killed by nomadic desert dwellers, the three of them finally reach the mountains. She reunites with her father's family, discovering who and what she came from.   Her mother's side comes from the furthest reaches of the Minn Mountains, just between the foothills and the coast. Stella discovers more than she can handle--her father was a Wolf Walker, and her mother was a witch, two tribes of people hellbent on hating each other until neither exist. Stella doesn't fit in with either group--she can never fully Change into a Wolf Walker, and her particular magical energy is taboo amongst her mother's people.   Stella has to find just where she fits in to the puzzle, if she does at all, while simultaneously helping both sides of her family avoid yet another Great Battle between each other. External forces threaten not just her life, but of everyone she comes to love as her own, and soon she will have to make a choice.
