Dragon's Claw

Across many of the lands of Istari dragons live and thrive in their own communities and in other countries living solitary lives or among the various mortals. They are ancient and are credited with creating the first written language, teaching the first wizards, and even creating some of the first kingdoms as well. This first achievement is the one that has universally been the most useful to many of the kingdoms and civilizations. The written word has enabled vast bureaucratic kingdoms to exist and to track many historical events, communicate over vast distances without magical aid, and creating spells.   While draconic has fallen out of use as the standard language it is still used by many spell casters and organizations. While not impossible to learn to speak it becomes difficult to write with the writing tools of the modern-day. The draconic symbols were developed by dragons using their claws which made it difficult with mortal-made tools to replicate the same symbols. A special tool was made to mimic it and it was aptly named the Dragon Claw. These were first gathered from dead dragons but as the language took off this soon was not enough for everyone using the language. This started some mortals to hunt down the dragons for claws in addition to their other body parts.   As dragons became more reclusive from the mortals' dragon claws became rarer and more coveted by those with money and practitioners of the arcane arts. The claws became heirlooms, becoming richly decorated and engraved with each passing generation. The tools themselves have even become engrained with magic after thousands of years of use, and are rumored to be able to write down spells its user has not learned before. These tools are worth nearly 100 times their weight in gold, and only a few are known and those are held by kings who allow their court wizards to use them.   There are some tools today that mimic a dragon's claw but those are rare and few to be found except in areas with a strong focus on studying magic. Even these simple tools can cause spellcasters to save up from their adventures for a chance to get such a useful tool in crafting scrolls, creating magically infused tattoos, or other magical items.
