Crystal Tree

Growing only in the harsh winter landscape of the Frozen Plain, these trees grow out of the glacier as deep blue crystal bark, with gold, silver, and lazuli-colored leaves growing out from their branches.    Little is known how this plant developed or why as it serves little purpose outside the uses the locals have found with the tree.    The Crystal Tree mimics the lifecycle of a regular tree, with it coming from a crystal seed that has bands of gold, silver, and lazuli. It is heavy and when dropped from a tall enough height breaks the ice and buries itself into the glacier, and after a snowstorm (which occurs frequently in the Frozen Plains) it becomes encased in the ice.   After this, it takes about 3 weeks before it sprouts its first shoot of gold-colored leaves. As it continues to grow it grows long blade-like leaves that resemble tall grass with the same colors as its leaves and does this for several months.    After this the tree at night blooms and forms into a full tree overnight. It then like other trees continues to grow by adding layer after layer of crystal bark for many years repeating its creation over that time. The Trees themselves can not survive outside of the Frozen Plains. Once taken from the land it begins to melt and quickly over the course of a week turns into water. It takes extreme cold and powerful magic to keep the tree alive outside the plain making it an expensive curio to those who can manage to keep one.    On the Frozen Plains it is used for fires as whether it be its natural properties or magic stored inside of it, can be burned and provide heat but never melts snow or ice. It also provides light as well but the strange mixture of properties is not fully understood by the mages who have devoted their lives to studying these bizarre plants.
