Nerun Tresdald Character in Issolum | World Anvil

Nerun Tresdald

Nerun Tresdald is the King of East Sahv. He gained power in the position many years ago, upon his own father's death to the hands of assassins. He has ruled over East Sahv for over a century. He is generally considered by most to be too old or unfit to rule, as his feeble mind and ways have allowed the country to decline. In addition, the Red Blooms seem to have him under their sway, leading to the country's law declining and the Red Blooms instituting their own law.   Despite the best efforts of the palace healers, his mind is declining, leading most to suspect he has dementia, though he has no official diagnosis for fear of the people using it as an excuse to try and remove him from office.   He has one son, who supports his father wholeheartedly, shooting down ideas that Nerun is no longer fit to rule whenever they re brought up.   What few people realize is that Nerun's mindless demeanor is an act. His mind is as sharp as a tack, and he has a grand facade in place to prevent this from becoming known. He secretly rules not only the country, but the Red Blooms themselves, through an elaborate process which leaves it looking like he is governed by the workings of the Red Blooms against his will.   Through this convoluted ruse, Nerun holds the wealth not only of his country, but of the largest criminal syndicate in near history. He maintains the perfect balance of pressure against his country and good for it that there is some unrest, but nothing major or leading to revolution, and it not only keeps it well held, but keeps other countries nearby from wanting to get involved or trying to cause trouble. The reputation of the Red Blooms and the idea that the current king will soon keel over anyways has, so far, been more than enough incentive to leave East Sahv alone amidst a portion of the country that is often in poilitical turmoil. Given this, the current state of affairs is one that the Emperor-King Zane Ayrie has chosen to overlook for now, deeming it safer in its current status than otherwise. Nonetheless, Nerun Tresdald is a man carefully watched.
