Anakhorisi, Goddess of the Sun

“Out of the cold darkness comes the Light... all rejoice, for the Shining One has returned again! And She shall bring us peace and wisdom and warmth and joy... let Her praise be sung so that She will return once more out of the darkness and ever bring us the dawn.” - part of the introduction to a prayer

Anakhorisi is the highest deity in the pantheon of Izuru-Delk’isi. The name means ‘The Shining One’, and She is said to be the first deity to have existed, shining suddenly out of the void. Stories differ; some accounts and interpretations say that She herself is the Sun, travelling across the sky on an endless path. Most tales agree that the Sun is the golden palace in which She resides, and that makes its journey along that same path, carrying Her through the heavens.
Her joy and power is in light and heat, and those who are fortunate enough to be visited by Her are filled with a radiant warmth as they look upon Her. She is often surrounded by a glowing nimbus and when appearing to mortals she carries a bright staff. She is accompanied in her travels by her escort, a great fox (see Flimarez- fire of the heavens ) blazing with an eternal fire.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Her divine emblem is a sun disc symbol. Supposedly bringing good luck, many worshippers wear necklaces and bracelets featuring this symbol made out of gold or bronze, and such pendants are common gifts.

Personal history

In the Beginning, there was only darkness. A Void, empty of light and life- but not cold, either, just... there. It had existed for many an age, but was only just forming. It was old, old as nothing else, and yet as young as youth itself. The Void was timeless and existed in perpetual balance, a state incomprehensible to the minds of mortals. It was begun before time and will endure when all the world is ash.
There was no sign, no clue, that what was about to occur would happen. It just did, and not even the Gods know why, or how. But it did. Out of the darkness, the first light ever to have existed began to shine. At first it seemed small, no more than the flicker of a candle’s flame, yet as much time passed, or no time at all, the light grew until it was huge, vast, and dwarfed by the expanse of the darkness all the same. From the centre of the light, Her form coalescing slowly, stepped a goddess, and She was radiant and beautiful in the blackness of the eternal night. Thus was Anakhorisi born, first of all deities and Mother to us all.
-Start of the ‘Tale of the Beginning’, as told by any tale-teller throughout Izuru-Delk’isi.
Anakhorisi was the first-born of all life. After Her appearance in the Void, She was alone for many an age in the reckoning of mortals; though time in the Void is strange and twisted. During this time She gained much wisdom and Her light grew even brighter. Her light is the origin of all gods and goddesses that followed Her, and all of this world owes its existence to Her.
