The Outlander Woods in Iskatel: Fortunebound | World Anvil

The Outlander Woods

Oriented between two large mountain ranges separating the Nine Kingdoms from the Outlands, the Outlander Woods are known as a dense, overgrown, and dangerous wilderness. Once, in a time before the Spell Wars, a road meandered it's way through the ancient trees on it's journey between the Nine Kingdoms and the town of Two Rivers. During the wars, the elves and their sorcerer allies kept the road under constant threat of ambush in an attempt to cut off the supply lines of the wizards and knights who fought them. Afterwards, brigands and thieves continued to roam what remained of the road until it was discarded as too dangerous to travel and all but forgotten.   Many say that the Outlander Woods are still heavily populated by rogues and bandits. After all, who else would flee the comfort of the kingdoms and take to the unforgiving Outlands? There are even rumors of strange beasts like owlbears and cockatrices wandering through the deeper parts of the wood. Hunters dare not venture more than a few miles into the trees. Any who venture into the woods for more than a day are considered as good as lost, either falling to bandits and monsters or joining with them in the Outlands.
