The Blood Oath
About
Blood Oaths are a demonic based ritual and tradition, started by demons of old. The practice has continued for numerous years, with species of demonic ancestry being the most common participants. Though it is not unheard of for Humans and other non-demons to take part in the ritual.
A Blood Oath is a sacred promise between two participants, following an exchange of blood. Typically it is done between two parties to avoid complicating measures, but it is possible to have up to three participants making a series of deals with each other.
It is a rare magic in current time, as it is risky and prone to backfiring if the oaths are not worded specifically enough. It also requires someone able to speak Demon, whether that is someone observing or a member of the ritual themselves.

Preforming a Blood Oath
- Both parties slice their hand shallowly while saying specific words in demon to activate the spell
- They clasp hands, and shake the other's hand
- State their terms
- Allow blood to mix before releasing the other's hand
The archaic version of the ritual stated that they were to leave their hand bloody, and only bandage once they were out of sight of one another. Now most have added the act of bandaging the other's hand into the ritual itself, as a display of honour.
Bloodkeepers will take this a step further and use their healing ability to seal the wounds on their hand as well as the other Oathmaker's hand.

Ritual Risks
Ritual Pain
Ritual Pain is one of the main risks of taking part in a Blood Oath. When an Oathmaker goes back on their deal, they will get an intense pain that throbs in the hand that was cut during a part of the ritual. The pain will continue to radiate up the Oathmaker's arm, with the sensation stopping at around the shoulder joint.
The pain is equivalent to Cluster Headaches, (also referred to as a "Suicide Headache") where the pain is so persistent and painful that the Oathmaker may feel like the only thing they can do is remove their arm by any means necessary.
This pain will continue to occur until the following actions are taken:
- The other Oathmaker releases them from their oath
- Complete the Oath
