Nicholas was a participant in the Nexus War, a war that had the former nation Hippessia split into what is known as Hajev and Erbar today. The fighting was a mix of magical and with other technology, depending on the side the soldier was fighting on. Nicholas had sided with the Traditionalists, and as a result fought with magic or low-technology weapons. He rose through his ranks, and became motivation for younger members of his side. Nicholas' dirty little secret? Right before the war, Nicholas was diagnosed with Mana Deficiency. Nicholas had not told his family of his declining magic ability, and hasn't told anyone. Nicholas could hardly summon his own wings, when he used to be able to cast magic like he was breathing--it came with ease, and he was a talented individual. He lied viciously through his paperwork, buying the silence of the doctor who had first diagnosed him. He weaved a story that it was the opposite in fact--Nicholas hadn't lost his power, his power was still growing and he needed items to help keep it in check.
