Harenasp (HAR-ehn-asp)

Brief

The Harenasp people, also refered to as Haren, is translated from the draconic words for 'harsh sands', are a group of beings within Isidoro that survive and habitate within the Piray Canyon. The common members of this ethnicity are typically earth and lightning dragons, along with various tribes of naga. There have been other species involved, but many end up unable to tolerate the harsh conditions and return to their original way of life.

Life in the Fissure

Life within the Piray Canyon is dangerous and uninviting for many reasons. The aird conditions make it difficult for the less hardy species of Isidoro to live there, but through teamwork, a small collection of beings have managed to come together and make it work. There is no rule of 'survival of the fittest' at work here. The Harenasp people believe that by working as a single unit, they can make up for any percieved weakness.

Communication

The major languages spoken between the Haren people is usually a mix between Draconic, Wildspeak, and ocassionally Silvertongue. Many of the species have learned bits and pieces of the others languages, but will also speak in Common if needed.

Lodgings

About 90% of the homes in the Canyon are built out of earth dragon and lightning dragon burrows. Their massive size and strength allow them to dig through the rock walls with ease, while Naga and other humanoid beings are able to adapt them to their own use. Cohabitation between species is common here, and generations of families often stay together to take care of one another.

Survival of the Whole vs Survival of the One

Harenasp put the community before themselves for various reasonings. Many of the earth dragons are likely inspired by Neidal and his Hoard, a tale in which a dragon gives up his hoard for companionship, and feels fufilled in ways he hadn't expected. A community is only as strong as its weakest link, so supporting each other in such a harsh enviorment is the key to longevity.

This thought also expands to any guests or travelers to the canyon, though only as long as they are respectful of the land they travel through.

The lightning dragon glided down from the canyon edge, its shadow casting over the Hidden Sapphire river. With a weary grunt, it dipped its head to drink. Across the way a naga was washing their clothes, acompanied by an earth dragon child. The sun was casting large shadows, though it was still blisteringly hot. With a gentle hand, the naga cupped water to pet along the child's back and without missing a beat, she looked up and spoke in rough Draconic, "<Are you in need of a meal Traveller? The heat is too harsh to hunt, and my husband and I have leftovers. Please, come partake, it would be my pleasure.>"

The lightning dragon's quills rose ever so slightly in surprise, and it lifted its snout. "<That....Would be nice. Thank you.>"
