Dietary Habits of the Wild Folk

Brief

Wild Folk are a sub-set of the Fair Folk, categoried by their pointed ears as a link to the fae and elves. Due to their harsh habitats, their dietary habits are as wild as their namesakes.

Mermaid Meals

Living primarily at sea and underwater, mermaids' meals consist of 90% seafood. However, they love when mortals offer sushi during their visits to the surface, as seaweed and kelp (along with the fish) are things they are very familiar with.

Common Foods

  • Fish
  • Crustaceans
  • Mollusks

Dining with Dragons

Mermaids often co-habitate with water dragons and as a result often eat similarly to the pod they interact with. This means that they tend to eat larger marine mammals, such as sharks, or even other hostile water dragons. This tends to unnerve other species, obviously.

Naga Meals

While also sharing the designation of Wild Folk, Naga are the total opposite of Mermaids in regards to their meals. Living on land in a harsh and hot climate means that Naga's options are on the opposite spectrum.

Common Foods

  • Scorpions
  • Meat (Lamb, Goat, etc)
  • Various Vegetables

A Hard Life

It's harder for a solitary Naga that is nomadic to gather food however, which leads to scorpions, desert plants like cacti and even small jack rabbits. You can tell if a Naga is eating well by the condition of their tail; if there's scale spread, they're either gravid or overweight. If the spinal ridge is obvious and at a point, they are likely underweight.
Most Nagas will live in small communities, to make it easier to tend for livestock and harvest from group gardens. With enough care, there isn't much scavenging that has to be done.
