Devaziti's Barrow
"Why is there smoke in the sky? What's going on? Should we call the fire watcher to let them know?" A young human teen with a hiking backpack bigger than it should have been pointed to the horizon, already reaching for his walkie-talkie. An air dragon, partially morphed to use their impressive claws to climb, placed their hand on his wrist.
"You do know this is specifically why I called you to come on this hike with me right? You said that Quecel was...What did you say?" They paused, tilting their head to the side, "'A boring place with trees and plains, nothing exciting ever'? Well, take a look. Just down this slope, is a fire that's been going since I was a child, and even before that."
"Didn't uncle say you were like, a hundred and fifty?"
Brief
Hidden until underground fires began, Devaziti's Barrow is a section of foothils in Quecel, specifically the Quecel Range. On the western edge of the range there are foothills that have become cracked open and now billow smoke nigh-constantly. The unstable nature of the terrain means that it is unsafe to build on. Many believe that the God of Destruction himself sleeps under the earth in this location, and that when the smoke ceases to billow means that he has awoken.Localized Phenomena
A Never-Ending Fire
In Devaziti's Barrow, there are cracks and crevices that open up to the earth below. These cracks allow deep ashy plumes of smoke to billow out and choke the sky. When the Barrow was discovered, there were attempts by mages and dragons alike to put out the source of the flames, thinking an ordinary fire had broken out somewhere. When their attempts were not successful and the smoke continued to pour out, it was considered an omen. The cause of the fire is constantly debated between religious parties and those of the scientific community--some claim it to purely be related to the gods, but others claim that it is just a seam of coal that had been caught ablaze somehow.History
While many run in fear of the Barrow, there is a group of individuals that took Devaziti's Barrow as a bastion of their beliefs. The Exitium Somnus, a cult that believes Devaziti should be awoken to allow the world to be remade. They have made small structures and a civilization near the foothills, and it is considered a headquarters for them--Many who join the cult travel here to be blessed and to take part in rituals.
