Níhilan (a.k.a. Naelen)
Background
Naelen was born in Gumber in the year 1450. Though he belongs to a House of wealth, power, and privilege, he falls just short of noble rank. But that's never really stopped him from getting ahead of his peers. As a young boy, Naelen showed promising talent in several categories; running, fighting, dancing, to name a few. On his day off you might find him reading for pleasure, practicing flute, or visiting a friend's house. He has an older sister named Lila, who takes after their father more than Naelen does. As far as we know, he's never resented being more like his mother in both looks and personality.Conflicts
As the son of an elf lord, there is little conflict that Naelen's had to face in his life, but that's not to say he's never been through any testing trials. When his adopted brother, Damien, was named an heir to their father's lordship, Naelen struggled to accept it -- and even acted out because of it. Though it took several years, he eventually came to terms with his lot and decided to stop bullying his brother over something neither of them could control. As a young man, Naelen traveled north to attend school at the prestigious Fighter's Academy of Lorianthil. There he met several people, including his very first romantic interest: Maya Katol. It was an unexpected relationship for the both of them, and ended quite badly with Maya's unfortunate death. After the fact, Naelen knew he needed to spend his life defending innocent people from large criminal organizations and prevent unncessary deaths like Maya's. This consequently led him to join the agent's force, a sort of police group that gets directly involved with Kingdom conflicts - long before any soldier or knight does. After a few years of working as an agent, Naelen found himself back in his foresty homeland for a brief leave of absence. There, he agreed to marry a local maiden named Mira because, one, he liked her, and two, it was helpful for the both of them. Naelen had been prepared to one day face a slightly arranged marriage, so why prolong it? But, his relationship with Mira was short lived. A long term assignment took Naelen far away from Gumber, into the western territories. While stationed there, he received communication from Mira that she had chosen another suitor because her new intended was not constantly absent. Naturally, this really brought Naelen to a low point in life. After two failed relationships, he began to question his own purpose. He leaned heavily on his siblings to get him through that, and they were all the more refined for it, but something inside Naelen had died a slow death, and he found himself bedding meaningless sex partners, abusing substances, making no promises.The Dark, Lovely Damsel
It wasn't until he encountered a new flame that he began to feel things again. A near encounter with death spurred him to ask out the beautiful dark elf who had literally walked into his path. He found himself going mad for Amilié, over everything she was. She was the exact opposite of him, and yet they shared some things in common: failed betrothals, deaths that hit hard, adopted siblings. It seemed his romance with Amilié naturally built on itself. He had forgotten how fulfilling it was to help a damsel in distress, fall for her slowly. The first night they spent together was magical, and from the experience he discovered that he really didn't care for anything else his family could place on him. Their expecations were shot to hell when he chose to go to Ëolnir with his new girlfriend. For a few weeks he thought that was it, that he would carve out a new life with Amilié. But reality came crashing down after a nauseating turn of circumstances. His brother, Damien, was gravely wounded and needed him in a moment of vulnerability, so Naelen answered the call and returned to Gumber once again.
The rebellious son of an elf lord, this young man's journey will take him all over the continent and have him meet the most interesting people.

Race: Male Lor elf Equipment and Abilities: Naelen favors a longsword crafted in traditional elvish style. He does the most damage as a melee fighter, but can be useful at long range with a few casted spells. His racial abilities allow him to wield Lorish runes in combat. - His real name is Níhilan, but after a few months of being dubbed Naelen by his adopted brother, he came to accept it.
- At the age of fifteen, Naelen mastered the most complex and powerful combat rune; an unprecedented feat amongst his own peers.
- Naelen is a talented dancer and has a good musical ear. Though he was never interested in being a professional performer, the idea has crossed his mind a few times.
- His favorite holiday is the annual summer festival. In his culture, they reserve three days soley for drinking the best ale, hiring the best musicians, and cooking the best food. (The summer festival also happens to fall around his birthday every year.)
