Tauberg Autocracy Organization in Irrelion | World Anvil

Tauberg Autocracy

A small nation inhabiting a narrow strip of land in the north-east of Irrelion, the only way in by land is locked by massive gates, and not anyone is just allowed entry in. An immortal ruler has guided the lands since before recorded time.

Structure

Tanir the Exalted is the complete holder of power and authority in the nation, he has no heir or family to potentially claim heir to his authority. He has many advisors, that are often temporarily appointed to oversee and report to him on many things throughout the nation, but ultimately it is his say that influences events and changes the course of the nation.

Culture

Much of the culture comes from both the unique area and circumstances under which the citizens live, but also from the many dwarves that reside in the mountains, that have intermingled with them since time immemorial. The nation is very isolationist, not wanting to deal with the troubles of the outside world, most citizens never leave the nation, only hearing news from traders that pass through.

Assets

The nation has a huge mass of wealth under it's belt. While technically smaller than most other nations at any given point, the per-capita wealth is much higher than all others. Dwarven strongholds line the mountains, as military checkpoints and outposts line the road through the territory, with soldiers equipped in the best armor money can afford them.

History

Tanir the Exalted lived well before year 0, and the beginning of recorded history. Many elves who lived before year 0 would attest to this, and many have over the years continued to swear that, despite being human, it is the same man as always. He ruled over what was once the small village of Lok-Koldur, guiding it into becoming a small city for trade off the beaten path. As other nations warred and wrested power from each other during the Age of Blood, however, he realized that to protect his people, he would need to fortify his borders. He quickly made pacts with the local dwarven strongholds, guaranteeing their own relative independance for their fealty to him, and their assistance in fortifying the lands. Massive gates at the border were quickly erected, and all the lands the mountains surround were annexed into his new nation. Ever since then, they have avoided almost every battle and war, simply by remaining out of sight and mind to the world at large.

Territories

The territories held by the autocracy are those to the east of the Koldurian mountains, in the very northeast of Irrelion. large parts of these lands consist of a massive swamp and wetland area, filled with vicious monsters. The military keeps these creatures at bay, and it is illegal to enter them, punishable by death, to avoid luring them towards the populated lands.

Military

The military of the autocracy is relatively small compared to other nations, but it does not need to be large either. War is not a concern, and foul creatures are held at bay, and have been for decades and centuries. They mostly ensure civil conduct within territories, and handle what few creatures do attempt to wander too far. The military is, consequently, well equipped. The amount of money for the average soldier is much higher, and even low rank soldiers are given uniforms containing decent amounts of plate for protection.

The coins of the Autocracy are incredibly unique, in that they are all squares. This is due to the large quantities of trade that go on; they have been made square as to fill every bit of a chest or other storage box. Despite seeming foreign to many, most storage chests and boxes across Irrelion are actually built standardized around the Tauberg Coin, meant to fit them perfectly in various amounts of rows and columns. The square coins are slightly smaller than other nations' round coins, as they fit the extra material in the corners to keep the same weight. Each type of coin carries the same markings on both sides; The two keys of the flag on the front, and the back contains an embossed canary.
