Eilieren Infirmary

Eilieren Infirmary is a treatment centre founded by Honarist Eilieren in the Chelestran capital city of Galade that specializes in the treatment of Magi.

Architecture

The infirmary was constructed with a mixture of brick and wood frame construction, a popular choice in Chelestra for those who put function ahead of form. It has a quite unremarkable exterior, having been deliberately designed to match the unremarkable offices built on either side.   Walking within, one is first greeted with a similarly subdued reception desk followed by a security checkpoint. Beyond the heavy wooden doors just passed the checkpoint, one could be forgiven for wondering if they had stumbled through a portal into another plane.   The doors open up on a wide, lavishly decorated hallway with stained hardwood floors and marble walls, opening up on a walkway that wraps around the exterior of a well tended garden courtyard. Most of the 100 patient rooms branch directly off the edges of the courtyard walkway either on the ground floor or the upper floor (which is reserved for patients whose injuries allow them to use the stairs without issue). Hallways branching off between the patient rooms allow access to the various facilities and amenities the hospital provides.   The South wing houses comfort amenities for the patients to access. Several small chapels dedicated to a variety of gods offer clerics a space to make their devotions, and a smaller courtyard found there is kept far more wild, providing druids a refuge. Most impressively is the library, featuring a large collection of tomes donated by various supporters. The collections held here offer a comprehensive collection of arcane and theological topics, as well as reference material on a variety of topics ranging from natural sciences to medicine to architecture (featuring the original model of the infirmary itself), as well as a smaller collection of fiction. This is also where the kitchens and dining halls can be found.   The North wing, conversely, is devoted entirely to medical facilities. The first floor contains all the mundanities of a normal hospital: operating theatres to stabilize patients in an emergency, alchemy labs for brewing specialized treatments, stores of both alchemical ingredients and a variety of stable alchemical treatments. All patients whose wounds are merely physical are eventually granted magical healing by Honarist Eilieren or one of the other healers on staff, with surgery seen more as a means of extending life until such a treatment can be offered; the alchemical treatments offer an expanded range of therapies for those suffering from magical curses or mundane maladies.   The upper floor, on the other hand, appears more like an arcane academy than a medical facility, and is where patients suffering from Burnout are treated according to Honarist Eilieren's new therapy. It includes a number of meditation chambers where patients can gain the necessary isolation to undergo re-training in the ability to sense the flow of magic, as well as reinforced chambers where they can practice simple spells, slowly building up the ability to direct magic through their bodies and into their spells. Some of these chambers are partially isolated with linings of Novaculite, a rock with a weak antimagic effect, reducing the amount of energy available so magi accustomed to opening themselves to the full flow of magic do not futher aggravate their condition. The wing also houses a few chambers for patients that are totally isolated from magic using the same material - while this is usually imposed as a form of punishment, here it is intended for those magi who have grown so accustomed to using magic in everyday life that they would risk injuring their abilities further through casting spells that have become second nature to them.

Great details about the layout of the building, and what the different areas are used for. I like that it's specifically aimed at the treatment of Magi.
