The Human-Hivivian War, also known as the Hivivian War, the Human-Hivivian Conflict, and the Great War, is a major interstellar conflict pitting humanity and its United Space Command against the Hivivian starting in the early-28th century April 23, 2725. There are two additional factions involved in the conflict: the Caniic and the Staalzi. Both factions prove to be invaluable to the efforts of humanity in their fight against the Hivivian.

History

First Conflict, Aurora (April, 2725)

The first contact with the Hivivian was a catastrophic event that left a trail of destruction and death in its wake. It all began on the Russian-controlled colony of Aurora, where representatives from both sides met on neutral ground to discuss their differences. However, the meeting quickly turned sour, and the Hivivian representatives unleashed their deadly power, killing everyone present.   The aftermath of the attack was devastating, with most of Aurora's population wiped out. The Russian President, Dimitri Sokolov, fearing the loss of any USSR ship, concocted a story about communication loss with the colony and requested the aid of the UNF's United Space Command to investigate the 'cause.' The UNF, wanting to maintain peaceful relations, sent a USC fleet under the command of Rear Admiral Gregory Armstrong to Aurora. However, the encounter was far from peaceful. The Hivivian ship, a single vessel, opened fire on the USC fleet, destroying most of the ships before jumping to hyperspace. The engagement was brutal, and Rear Admiral Armstrong was reportedly killed in the attack.   The events that unfolded on Aurora were a stark reminder of the dangers of first contact with an alien race. The Hivivians had shown their true colors, and it was clear that they were not to be trifled with. The incident would have far-reaching consequences, setting the stage for the invasion of New Earth and the ultimate showdown between humanity and the Hivivian.

Battle of New Earth (2725)

The battle of New Earth is considered to be the only large-scale battle during the early stages of the Human-Hivivian War. The attack began on 23rd April 2725 at 17:57 Zulu standard time with the first ground incursion occurring some two hours later. Hivivian atmospheric aircraft quickly dominated much of New Earth’s air space with a Corvette-like starship camped over the capital targeting any and all civilian ships attempting to flee.   This corvette is later severely damaged from combined weapon’s fire of two Mosquito VTOL attack crafts piloted by Colonel Kody Davidson and TODT Sergeant Ashley Norton along with ground AA cannon fire from TODT Commander, General Isaac Bennett. General Bennett, died some time later from injuries gained in battle with a Becceorian war chieftain.   After reaching orbit, Colonel Davidson and Sergeant Norton's Mosquitos were met by the USC Glided Knight commanded by Admiral and USC Vice Commander, Edward Simms. Once docked, several more Hivivian ships started to drop out of hyperspace. The resuilting battle lasted almost fifteen minutes with the USC Fleet defending civilian ship as they evacuated the planet. Admiral Simms heroically gave his life in the engagement.

Isolated Battles (2725)

After the fall of New Earth, continued small space battles between humanity and Hivivian forces with most occurring in the black of space away from UNF colonies, at least, for a bit. However, to the USC’s misfortune, the Hivivian eventually found their way to the civilian colony of Canaanite and overwhelmed the military garrison there. Canaanite fell quickly but civilian casualties were minimal as the USC was able to evacuate a fair amount of the population before the Hivivian’s attack.

President Carter is Captured!

While returning to Earth via. a detour to avoid direct engagement with skirmishes between the USC and this alien threat, President Brandon Carter’s starship, Space Force One came under attack by one of the Hivivian dreadnoughts. Following procedure to ensure Carter’s safety, his secret service detail placed him in an escape pod and launched with Space Force One providing cover to allow the pod to clear the combat zone. Unfortunately, President Carter and his protection team were intercepted by a Hivivian boarding team and while the secret service agents put up a fight, they were all captured. President Carter included.   President Carter was transferred to one of the Hivivian’s dreadnaught prison ships along several others from conquered worlds. Among these ‘alien’ prisoners was the Staalzi heiress and about six Caniic. Being trapped for what seemed like months, Brandon became quite acquainted with his fellow ‘inmates’. One of which was the Staalzi heiress, Princess Airinitia Zor'c, who told Brandon that her kind has been forcefully enslaved to obey the Hivivian and even offered to help fight them if Brandon agreed to take her with him if he was able to be rescued or even manage an escape. The only problem with either of those plans was the fact that Brandon had no idea if anyone was searching for him or even where in the galaxy he was.

First Contact with the Caniic

While out searching nearby systems for traces of the President’s starship or even its Blackbox, if destroyed, the crew of the Blue Dawn fell under attack by seven Hivivian warships. After taking heavy damage, the Dawn’s commander, Colonel Kody Davidson was about to order all hands to abandon ship. However, it was in this moment when all seemed lost, the Dawn’s sensors detected multiple hyperspace windows open up to reveal four more ships of unknown origins. The unknown ships almost immediately opened up fire on the Hivivian ships forcing them into retreating. After the attack the Blue Dawn under the command of Colonel Davidson sent a transmission to the unknown ships that they were peaceful as well as to convey their gratitude. The unknowns returned a reply by text message to meet face to face. Kody, of course, agreed to meet up as he figured they were better off dealing with whoever was on those ships than they had been with the Hivivian.   This met up (humanity’s ‘second contact) took place on the caniic’s command ship as the Blue Dawn was too damaged and the fact that it had no formal convergence capability. Kody along with a security team boarded the caniic ship and were met by Jaal Vaniisǫgr, the leader of the caniic military and government. Vaniisǫgr said that prior to encountering Kody’s ship, they too were on a rescue mission to save one of their exploratory teams.   During the encounter, Kody mentioned that they had traced President Carter’s signal to what he believe was an uninhabited planet. As it turns out that planet was in fact the colony, Surniic, the caniic’s first outside their home system. With this new information, Kody formally requested permission to set foot on the colony and search for the location of the signal. Governor-General Vaniisǫgr, though a little suspicious of the humans, agreed under one condition: a caniic team had to accompany them everywhere while on the colony to ensure that they didn’t try anything. Kody obviously understood Vaniisǫgr’s position and agreed and even asked to place his own team on the caniic’s ship for a similar reason.

Declaration of war (December, 2725)

In a formal address to the United Nations Federation General Assembly and Security Council, President Brandon Carter officially declares all-out war with the Hivivian Empire. Stating that the losses of Russia’s colony of Aurora, and the UNF’s worlds of New Earth, Terminus, and Canaanite were too great to let go without a fight. The declaration was fully adopted three days later by a vote of 87 to 13. Humanity’s first interstellar war had begun.

Formal alliance with the Caniic Hierarchy

During the same assembly for the war declaration, President Carter also formally cemented an alliance with the Caniic for their role in securing his rescue from the Hivivian. Carter assigned Kaden Tomson to act as liaison to the Caniic Hierarchy on Earth and Lawrence Goodwell as humanity’s ambassador on Tíreia. The Caniic also agreed to provide military aid to humanity in their fight against the Hivivian, as well as any ‘humanitarian’ assistance to human worlds devastated by Hivivian attack.   The Caniic, however, weren’t the only alien race to ally themselves with humanity. The Staalzi, a formerly enslaved race of the Hivivian, agreed to informally fight at humanity’s side and only agreed to cement relations once the humans proved trustworthy. Though, saving the Staalzi heiress gave them great favor with the Staalzi’s Empress.

Battle of Harmony

The battle of Harmony though a major victory for humanity, came at a heavy cost, as it witnessed the most devastating loss of life since the Fall of New Earth. Reports indicate that casualties numbered around 3.9 million civilians and over 210 thousand military personnel. Additionally, several crucial assets were destroyed, including Harmony's orbital elevator and hundreds of starships, among them the USC's flagship, USC Titan. Nevertheless, amidst the staggering losses, an important revelation emerged from the battle - the Hivivian's vulnerability. It was discovered that every Hivivian ship, particularly the larger vessels, were physically linked to a central command ship. The destruction of this command ship triggered a catastrophic chain reaction, causing each subordinate ship to explode after a brief time delay of approximately 30 seconds. This weakness turned out to be a crucial breakthrough for humanity's strategic understanding of the enemy forces.

Operation Supernova

Almost immediately after the Battle of Harmony that saw the destruction of the USC Titan and the discovery of the Hivivian's ultimate weakness. A plan by the USC's HIGHCOM and Caniic Hierarchy was conceived to locate and destroy the Hivivian's main flagship (mothership) by detonating a combination of both human and caniic nuclear warheads, creating the ultimate weapon-of-mass-destruction. To locate the mothership quickly, both the USC and Caniic sent out scout ships all throughout the Orion Arm. When news finally came back of the ship's location, it was a shock to the USC for the Hivivian had finally broke into the Sol and had already wiped Sol's early warning satellites, and the mining outpost on Pluto, the moons of Neptune and Uranus, and was now closing in on the Jovian Colonies.

Battle of Earth
The battle of Earth, is the final battle of the Human-Hivivian War, as well as the largest military campaign in all human history. The Battle of Earth occured concurrently along the Hivivian's siege of Mars, however, the vast majority of the Hivivian armada was sent to invade Earth with the first recorded evidence of Hivivian presents being discovered in Europe on the Italian peninsula along the coastline of the Adriatic Sea. More specifically, the flooded ruins of Old Venice. Other areas around Europe like Rome, Italy, Berlin Germany, Paris, France, and London, England, as well as parts of the US, Africa, and China also saw heavy combat against Hivivian ground forces. Though, the greater part of the battle occurred in orbit. Human and Hivivian forces weren't the only ones heavily engaged in this historical battle. Nearly half of the Caniic space fleet and several Staalzi ships were also present fighting with Humanity as allies.

War Heroes

Killed in Action

HUMANITY
  • Admiral Gregory Armstrong: Though, not technically considered a war hero for defying a direct order from a superior officer, Armstrong and those under his command are considered the first unofficial casualties of the Human-Hivivian War after engaging a Hivivian dreadnought in high-orbit above Aurora.
  • General Isaac Bennett: Commander of the Tactical Orbital Defense Troopers, in charge of the New Earth garrison. During the invasion, Bennett held the Hivivian orbital forces at bay for almost three days before being forced planetside where Bennett met his death by taking on seven squadrons of Becceorian and Shilizal. Bennett reportedly killed the Becceorian war chieftain, Teckamontis, who led the ground assault.
  • Vice Admiral Edward Simms:
  • Sergeant Ashley Norton: was a notably skill TODT soldier who tended to follow her heart even if it went against orders. Ashley heroically lost her life during the early stages of the Hivivian War while rescuing President Carter on Terminus when she was shot in the head by a Shilitzal sniper.
  • Major Katrina Hastings: was an extremely skilled augmented soldier of the USC’s Knight Operations. She heroically lost her life while leading an assault unit during the Battle of New Athens when she was struck by an enemy airstrike. Moments prior, Hastings notably took out an entire squadron of Gnimgian, six Shilizal commanders, and two Krilloir drones.
  • Commander Gerry Bistro: was a veteran serviceman of the USC Navy in command of the USC’s flagship, USC Titan. Bistro has seen combat in variety of battlefields from planet-side to orbit to deep space battles. For most of Bistro’s later career, he spent his command on exploration missions of the outer-most regions of the Orion Arm. Bistro, heroically met his death above Harmony during the Human-Hivivian War when he set a collision coarse to a Hivivian dreadnought, destroying the Titan followed shortly by the Hivivian ship along with many others. Bistro’s sacrifice marked the turning point in the War for humanity.
  • Commander Izayah Hendricks: Another seasoned officer of the USC Navy, Hendricks was the base commander for Fireteam Delta from 2711 until his reassignment in 2724. Hendricks was also a xenobiologist in the employ of the Office of Space Intelligence and was one of the first to conduct an autopsy of the Shilitzal alien species. Hendricks lost his life when he rammed his Panther dropship into the command bridge of a Hivivian destroyer to allow his former team to board it.
  • Colonel Richard Beckett: A seasoned officer of the TODT and one of the luckiest servicemen in the USC. Beckett, idiotly, lost his life when the reactor of his H5 Spearhead fighter exploded due to overheating from over hyperspace skipping during the Battle of Earth.
  • Corporal Madeline Anderson
  • Caniic
    • Governor-General Jaal Vaniisǫgr:

    • Major Colonal Waviir Kalik:

    • Captain Avacaria 'The Phantom' Worefix:

    New conflicts

The downfall of the Hivivian brought rise to a great many new conflicts and enemies with the most known being the Caniic-Becceorian War which, as the name implies, pitted the Caniic and the Hivivian’s former enforcers, the Becceorian, against each other. This war lasted for just over five years with the Caniic as the victors, though not without great losses. The Staalzi also saw a few conflicts arise against Shilizal, though this formally escalated into all-out war as the Shilizal themselves were engaged in a bloody civil war on their home planet. For Humanity, there was a calm but short peace. However, this soon ended after a group of OSI agents robbed a sacred Asiel religious temple and killed every guard inside.
