The Tale of He Who Roams

Where The Living Go To Die

Written by KhelbenTV

Beware the walk of He Who Roams, who walks the land of frozen snow. Where snow does fall, he soon will crawl, to drag you out towards darkness. He has a gift of broken sight, the ability to see those who hide, and hide still from those who see. From the tree he shall climb, and your eyes he shall take, till nothing is left. You will be joined unto him, and never again will a parent hear a wail. All will be forgotten, children, adults, animals. For He Who Roams will soon be here.

Summary

A being of strange nature, one for whom it's origin is still widely unknown. It is said to be born within a tree, and the tree serves as it's anchor to the mortal plane. It serves as a threat to all who lurk within the dark, taking the eyes of children, adults and everything in between, adding them to it's own body, a foul form of justice that only the creature itself believes in.   It all begins with a root, growing deep within the basement of an establishment. From this root, grows a darkened tree, as black as night. The tree needs no water, nor food. It feeds off of luck, off of misfortune, of anger and joy. And when the tree feeds, it grows, and when the tree grows, He Who Roams, is born from within. A pale humanoid looking creature, which is little more than the size of a child. Most notably, the lack of eyes on this creature, though it seems able to see without need for eyes. From here, it will stalk forth the members of the house, from smallest to largest, claiming their eyes, and adding them to both it, and it's tree. When finally those it has tormented either die, or escape, it rips up it's tree, traversing through the realm of shadows to the next house, and repeats the pattern.

Historical Basis

Whilst it is a myth, many claim to have seen the so called Tree of Eyes, at least once before in their lives. Descriptions all the same, from all over the known world of Interitus do lay credence to the existence of such a beast, but none have yet to be found. The Capital, for instance, is entirely devoid of such sightings, and until further evidence is proven, it shall stay nothing more than a myth.

Spread

Commonly known by the elders of villages throughout Interitus. Whilst not a secret, it is not widely spoken of, a strange terror that one cannot fight would send towns into chaos. Until it is proven to be real, it is simply an object of hidden nature.

Variations & Mutation

It began as a tale told to scare the children, and spread out from here. A case of blindness here, a few murders there, and thus this myth of a strange, eye-stealing monster was born.
Date of First Recording
The first recordings date back to the creation of Interitus, as if the beast simply hopped a ride along towards this world.
