The Harvest Military Conflict in Inside the Bag | World Anvil

The Harvest

Each year, every 200 Rumbles, The Devourer harvests what it has been growing inside it's domain. All over the The Dump and across the Sub-Planes creatures of the beasts creation, directly linked to it, attack and consume whatever they can get their hands on. Anywhere with a significant population, or amount of resources is for the most part destroyed and eaten by this horde. Anyone or anything eaten by these creatures are directly deposited into the Caustic Ocean. Some try to prepare for this, and will attempt to get eaten whole and try their luck in the ocean without being killed first. Without magical protection, both parts of this plan are rarely successful.

Feast and Famine

Before the harvest begins, the sister cities of Feast and Famine prepare for the attack. A lottery is held for all the people of Feast. Winners of this lottery are allowed temporary place inside of Famine for the duration of the attack. The amount allowed is based on the spare resources of Famine and how much space they can fit people for the multi day siege. The remaining population of Feast generally try to barricade around the Famine's barrier in an attempt to allow the trained soldiers inside that are in the towers around the city to fire at the enemy and provide some support. Unfortunately, most years this is a futile attempt. On average the population of Feast is reduced by 80-90%.   The Guardians within Famine will then spend the next few days slaying the creatures at the barrier by rotating groups outside of the edge to combat them, while the previous groups are healed by magic or medicine. The towers surrounding the city primarily serve as a means to slay the Siege Beasts. These are giant-like creatures that throw anything they can pick up, often the ramshackle homes in Feast, through the barrier to damage the city, as the barrier only blocks creatures from entering and allows objects through just fine. Once these creatures are slain, those in the towers turn their attention to the horde and assist in clean up.   After the siege is over, usually taking a few days, the lottery winners are released back out into Feast. It has become tradition to pick over the remnants of the city and the Feast Merchant's Guild hold's a ceremony where what ever remains is divided up amongst whoever is left.
