Session 03: Silence beyond the Stream

General Summary

Having come to the conclusion that the party needed some sort of purple item to enter the Rat King's quarters behind the demonic-faced-door, the party headed back to the corral to rustle up a Rat-Bear-Pig to help them sniff out the violet fungus in the northern chamber in order to find something... purple. Rather than using the rat-bear-pig to sneak their way through the violet fungus, they instead used it to identify them and launch an assault. As the characters were using ranged attacks, the violet fungus were dispatched with ease, though some spells were expended as they determined whether or not they would be an actual threat. Squig took two black lotuses, Mycena (in a stroke of brilliance!) druid-crafted an additional black lotus, and they proceeded to deface the second statue that they found in there. No one heeded the calls to "MIX THE BLOOD, TAKE THE POWER", though Mycena took a vial of the fluid from the statue's bowl for later, as well as plenty of fungus from the rest of the chamber..

The party then returned to the underground stream, noting the continued path on the other side as well as a skeleton clutching a paper of some sort, and decided to cross it. Even though the party noticed two oddly clean rocks and several moss covered skeletons beforehand, the party continued into the water where they were best upon by said skeletons and two gray oozes, (the oddly clean rocks). This battle went smoothly for the party, suffering relatively few grazing blows, but more spells and resources were expended. Sprock was able to use his "Auto-Tying-Grapple-Rope-O-Matic" to create a safe and sturdy path across the water.

Reaching the other side of the water, the party investigated the skeleton and found some coin, a spell book with three spells (which has not yet been identified) and a scroll of silence with a warning about Darkmantles scrawled on the back. The party immediately ignored this warning, charged in, and though they were able to handily defeat three in the first grouping of them and sneak all the way to the Storm's Herald warhammer in the back, they failed their last stealth check on the way out - IMMEDIATELY under a group of darkmantles! The sound of battle caught the attention of more from farther back in the cave. Morgana and Mycena both fell, and only Mycena was able to be rescued. Morgana was beset and feasted upon by a large number of Darkmantles, marking the first character death in this game a whole THREE SESSIONS IN.

SORRY CRISTEN :S

Forced to leave Morgana's body behind, the party was able to retreat using the "Auto-Tying-Grapple-Rope-O-Matic" to steady themselves as they dashed across the stream, retrieved said rope-o-matic, and rushed back to the entrance of the cave to regroup.
