The Red Bridge

The Red Bridge is visible out the window. I lean against the wall, watching the workers repaint the rails. It's rather strange how iconic the color has become to the point where the paperwork doesn't even have to cross my desk for the repaint work, approval is guaranteed as long as the cost isn't inflated, seeing as everyone in the region is oddly proud of the color. Only one group has tried to scam me in such a way in my time as the ruler of this city and the surrounding lands and that ended with me charging them with fraud.
The sun catches the paint, glistening wetly. I laugh to myself, remembering the way visitors tend to react, commenting that the color reminds them too much of blood. What can I saw, haft of my citizens are Vampires and we rather like seeing that color. That and our human neighbors respect us, wanting us to know that they support our existence by keeping the bridge that red color. They also like the color as it does reinforce the city and regions strength, being an isolated, rough land.
That bridge has stood for centuries, it is a mark of our strength and endurance. We will stand at the hostile edge of Illary, just as that bridge stands at the edge of the city leading to the fortress. That bridge connects us.

Purpose / Function

The bridge leads to the fortress of Rosewater from the city that surrounds it.

Defenses

The bridge has two sets of heavy iron gates that can be dropped in times of crisis. Those gates are rarely closed and even in crisis moments are left open as long as possible for it is ingrained in the minds of the Vampric denizens to protect their human neighbors.
