Gunpowder Weapons

I pick up the strange weapon, examining it. The hollow tube attacked to a handle, odd but deadly. I saw that for myself. Sigil's hovering about my waist, wanting a better look.
"What is it, Bercalion?" He asks, pulling my arm down so he can get a better look.
"Not sure. It sparks here when this little lever is pulled and then a tiny piece of metal shoots out the end of the tube. Made a hole the size of a finger on the way in and two on the way out. That soldier was lucky it didn't go in anywhere vital." I set the weapon on the table and put Sigil on a chair so he can see it better. "Pretty noisy ranged weapon but effective."
Sigil puts his tools on the table in front of him. "Do you want to see how it works?"
I nod. "Sure. If we can figure it out, maybe we can modify it for me."
The kid laughs. "You do like bows so maybe."
It takes several hours for him to take it apart and sketch out exactly how every piece fits together. I wade though my paperwork, keeping an eye on him so he doesn't hurt himself.
"It looks like this sparky powder ignites here, shooting out the metal ball from the tube, hitting and killing the target." Sigil says after a while. "I think I can replicate it but we don't have that sparky powder. I'll need a different source of spark and maybe a different source of metal balls? Give me a couple weeks, I'm going to mess around and make one of my own, with the modifications needed to work with what we have. We'll need to learn how to defend against it too."
"How do we do that?" He shrugs his shoulders.
"I don't yet, but we'll figure it out."

Utility

Mostly for military and defensive purposes. It is also pretty good for murdering people.

Social Impact

It gave people hope, as they are surrounded by Casters. It leveled the playing field, especially against the quick, powerful and deadly Okami or Lycan's as the Coruscaren's call them.

Easily our greatest discovery, gunpowder weapons. Knetics can't move quickly enough to avoid the bullets and one hit can bring down even the most power of them. I've personally watched these weapons fell those they call S-class. They might have survived but they didn't get back up on their feet. This is the beginning of our chance. This is the beginning of our expansion. They won't be able to stop us. This is the beginning of our time.

It's only really in the Coruscaren Empire, used for military purposes though smaller pistols are becoming more widespread among the merchant class.

Discovery

The Coruscaren's, looking for ways to fight Casters and level the playing field, discovered that the black powder they called Spark Soot could be weaponized. They began crafting test weapons until they successfully made a lethal and accurate rifle.
