Will was raised in a very conservative household. As the only son of three children, he was his father's pride and joy, though the elder William Standley did not hesitate to punish him when he misbehaved, expecting much of his son. The values William Sr. expressed, of male supremacy and strict social order, trickled down to his son. William Sr. ruled his house with an iron fist and would regularly spank both his children and his wife.
Will became engaged in politics already in his mid-teens, expressing a keen interest in his country's history and the cause of the revolution. He joined the Young Masculinists, the Masc Party's youth group, at sixteen and got involved in local politics. He went on to study political science and by the age of twenty-three, he was elected MP (the same year Bryce Fitzsimmons became a senator). Even when he realised he wasn't attracted to women, he still believed in the system and, while he acted on his desires on multiple occasions, didn't question the rest of the Masculinist ideology he had come to hold so very dear.
He got engaged to Charlotte Crowe in spring of 2089, to be married in late August of the same year. Their fathers were good friends, as were their mothers, and their families relished in bringing them together.

History

They met at Magnus's graduation party. Will admires Magnus a great deal and is very attracted to him. The two engaged in oral sex at the party, though they had to stop prematurely, for fear of discovery. They later had a one-night stand. Magnus likes Will well enough but doesn't have feelings for him and doesn't know him well enough to call him a friend.

History

Will sees Bryce as a rival and disagrees with his politics. Even though Bryce feigns a hard line (despite being a Tory; imagine me writing a book where the Conservatives are the good guys, at least some of them), Will sees the relationship between him and Alexa, and he has his suspicions about Bryce screwing men, so he wants to get him in the sack and use that against him somehow. He wears a body cam in an attempt to catch footage and blackmail Bryce, who is vying for the presidency. Unbeknownst to both Will and the reader, however, Magnus has picked up on Will's animosity and warned Bryce, who also has a camera and films the whole thing. When Will tries to blackmail him, Bryce reveals his footage and with mutually assured destruction, Will can do nothing.

History

Their families were well acquainted and their mothers introduced them to each other. It was important for Will to marry, to deflect from his homosexuality and make a good impression for his party.
