Confronting Father Typhus

The Party Spares the Yellow Priest to Save One of Their Own

General Summary

It is March 2nd, 1000 PCE. The Party entered the Great Hall of the Voidseal pyramid and solved the Puzzle of the Watchers. Rob was killed in the process. They were met by a Void priest of the Yellow King cult, Father Typhus, who announced his kinship with Brother Kervis before attacking the Party with his cadre of Void mutated followers. After surviving this encounter, the Party used the Renewal Station 7 Autodoc to revive Rob.

Dealing with Old Enemies

The Party relied upon Tobias and his flight module to navigate the central shaft of the Voidseal one passenger at a time. Tobias used this contrivance to get Jayne and Edmund alone (away from Adelle) to inform them that Adelle was actually a dangerous psion named Delora Delarmi. Edmund mused that Adelle had behaved suspiciously at various points of the journey. Jayne tried to recall his earliest memories of Adelle and realized his earliest memories were only of Adelle. Hearing this, Tobias speculated that Adelle was the likely cause of Jayne’s memory loss and revealed that he and Jayne had met before when Jayne was known as Janov Seldon, a name the Party had learned when they had attempted using the RS5 Autodoc to restore his memories.
The trio agreed to keep an eye on Adelle and maintain secrecy. When Tobias carried Adelle up through the passage she made it clear to him (in private) that she was indeed Delora, one of the six Archons of the erstwhile Phoenix Order. She warned him not to plot against her and reminded him that she could read his mind if she really wanted to know what he was telling her companions.

Puzzle of the Watchers

The PCs retrieved a second stone orb from the Hall of the Edrolim and used it to properly open the door to the highest chamber in the Voidseal’s central shaft.
On the other side, they saw the oversized chessboard Math had discovered when he had assumed ectoplasmic form earlier in the day. Beyond the board, they saw strange technological devices, including a matrix chamber containing the Deathbringer artifact and a familiar Renewal Station Autodoc. By using the mock stone Visitor artifacts found in other chambers, the PCs caused a set of four chess pieces to appear and assume positions on the board (the pieces also cryptically announced the locations of their namesakes). In the process of prompting this transmutation, however, Math sprung the trap again, and Rob was killed in the ensuing electrical discharge.
The Party managed to move the knight piece to safety across the chessboard, which allowed them to enter the room, at which point they were met by a yellow-garbed priest, who wore a white face mask.

Father Typhus

This masked stranger materialized out of thin air and introduced himself as Father Typhus, a priest of the Yellow Cult (a splinter group of the Vril). He thanked the Party for solving the “Watcher Puzzle,” but cursed them for defeating his comrade, Brother Kervis. He promised the PCs that he would kill them for interfering with Kervis’s mission. When the PCs proceeded to attack, Typhus directed his followers, supplicants in silent prayer before grotesque statues depicting Void beings, to complete their orisons and face the Party. The followers transformed into chaotic Void elementals and attacked the Party with negative energy attacks.
After a hard-fought battle that saw Math rendered unconscious and Rob raised into the living dead by Typhus’s spectral hand, the Yellow priest offered to give the Party the chance to save Rob’s life if they would allow him to escape. The Party agreed, and Typhus used the Deathbringer to lift Rob’s zombie curse. Afterwards, Typhus reverted to a swarm of wriggling vermin and left the Deathbringer behind (at Edmund’s insistence). This gave the PCs the chance to use the Autodoc to save Rob’s life.

Autodoc

The Party brought in their medical expert, Fulbeard, who used the artifact with support from Edmund and Everest. After a lengthy surgical procedure, the renewal pod opened to release Rob back to the land of the living. He lifted his face to the light and opened eyes to reveal a pair of darkened spheres, no pupils, only inky blackness like the eyes of a deep sea fish. He coughed and staggered out of the pod releasing a serpent from his mouth in a pool of viscous black bile.

Awards and Treasure

These awards are for the last three sessions (and have already been added to character totals):
  • William, Rob: 6270 XP
  • Tobias: 8270 XP
  • Edmund, Jayne, Math, Everest: 10,270 XP

The Party has accessed the RS7 computer system as well as the station Autodoc module. It is clear that the Void energy that has suffused this place has corrupted the Autodoc, however, as witnessed by Rob’s unfortunate corruption.
Using the Autodoc is a dangerous proposition under the present circumstances.
