Born a Common Man

Jarus was born thirty-two years before the founding of Naemore - a time before kings and lords when long winters controlled the year and bandit raids, squabbling powers, and the Collectors competed for the resources of the capitol region - then known as the Giant's Shadow. He was the middle of three children, the others died, the younger to a fever and the older while fighting a devastating attack by the Collectors.   Only a handful of people from his village survived that attack and were low in morale and lower in supplies. Jarus would not let the murder of his elder sister, parents, and friends go and this event is what pushed him to take up arms. That very night using his companion as a lookout he snuck into the camp of the killers and stole whatever supplies he could carry in his sled and returned to the survivors. He donned a stolen red cloak with white fur trim before he distrubuted the food to the small group. When dawn broke he offered them weapons and roused them to action.

The Campaign

His small band stood no chance against an organized power like the Collectors and instead focused their efforts on recruiting more people from the hardest hit villages in the region. They fought against small groups of raiders using ambushes and hit and run attacks with their small numbers. With eyes in the sky they were always able to begin battles on their own terms and avoid the ones they did not want to fight. Taking out these thugs earned the gratitude - and sometimes service - of the people. In the first of battle, Jarus who was not yet an experienced warrior would have lost his life - and the world its future - if not for the actions of a young recruit named Kaline. The leaders of six villages who joined with him became his greatest allies, lifelong friends, and later the allied lords.   When Jarus began engaging the Collectors he utilized small stealth attacks against their raiding parties and outposts. For hundreds of years they had been gathering strange relics and had learned to utilize them, no attack was a guarenteed success when even one foe could cause an earthquake or set a village ablaze. With Tujoc's watchful eyes the future king's forces were always able to engage the Collectors on their own terms.   It took many years but eventually he tracked down the main base of his enemy and destroyed it - along with everything inside. It was a costly battle and many died even for a while it seemed Jarus was among the dead - he was inside the fortress when it caught fire and began collapsing. Minutes later he staggered out of the front gates just before they collapsed, the only member of the force that entered the base to survive.

Naemore

Finally finished with his quest for vengeance he gathered the allies he had gained over the years and founded a nation. Constructed on the the very same mountain where the final battle took place was Karai Castle, the residence of the royal family.   He ruled as King of Naemore alongside Queen Kaline Sabah for fifteen years when his rule was brought to an abrupt end by a surviving member of the Collectors. He died in the throne room held the arms of the queen when someone who was granted audience produced a shard and performed some sort of strange magic.
"Swords and armor are tools but they do not win wars. Numbers don't win wars either, we proved that. We had people we could trust and reliable allies. We had knowledge and the wisdom of when to fight and when to retreat.   More than that our cause was just. We had nothing to lose and everything to gain. The world responded to our victory, we brought peace to Giant's Shadow and the winter has already made way for spring.   The war is over but our struggle is not. There are still people suffering here and out there. We must be ready to provide aid to the villages in every corner of the nation. We will need to do everything we can to ensure the future of this world."
— Excerpt, Record of the Founding Speech of Naemore

The White Owl

The first king's companion was a snow-white owl named Tujoc. He could see through its eyes and used this ability to gain vital information about the movement of hostile forces before engaging them in battle.
