The Fishers

In the not too distant past the Fishers were just that, fishermen and women who worked the coastal regions of the Iron Sea. But the tumultuous sea was difficult to earn a stable living and many fisherfolk couldn't make ends meet. A sure way of making quick coin was smuggling restricted goods, and selling pre-shattering relics fished up from the sea or salvaged from the ruins of Ambergrave. These endeavors quickly escalated to include more mundane crime such as petty theft and extortion. Before too long the Fishers had created a black market of goods and services and their reach spread from the shores to the landlocked cities of Havenhold.   The Fishers have a guild structure that mirrors naval command with the officers holding positions such as First Mate and Quartermaster. The current guild leader, known only as The Captain, has kept their identity hidden from all but the inner circle of officers and is known for their brutal intellect and ruthless cunning. The Fishers have grown so strong and well organized that it is rumored that King Veritas himself has had to call on them several times for reasons unknown.   Having come from the poor and forgotten parts of society the Fishers have been know to be helpful, in some cases even protective of the poor and downtrodden. Many a poor widow has found a small coin purse tied to her door with a fisherman's knot, and no orphan is turned away from help or shelter should they come to the docks. Following these traditions has not only kept them true to their roots, but has earned them the intense devotion and protection of the poor and working class of most cities.   The Fishers operate in secrecy despite the high level of influence they have in the government and communities of Havenhold. Complex hand signs and nautical language with double meanings is used by members of the guild to communicate in public. The guild also uses tattoos to convey information as well as rank and specialty in the organization. Nautical knots and other iconography are used in storefronts and homes to mark various safehouses, fences, markets, and the like.

The largest black market in Havenhold is in the coastal city of Castleport though the guildhall is rumored to be on an island or ship somewhere in the Iron Sea.
