Madilar

The madilar are a secretive and secluded race, related to doppelgangers (Bestiary p. 89).   Before the portal between the worlds was created, madilar could only be found on Ianna and even now very few madilar choose to cross over to Terria. They are most commonly known as merchants and traders, sailing the seas of Ianna with their large trading vessels. Their ability to buy and sell any kind of item is the only reason madilar are still tolerated in many of the cities on Ianna. The few madilar that live on Terria rarely reveal their true form: they either live out their lives in solitude or blend into the various human cities, making good use of their abilities to hide what they are.   Play a madilar if you want…

Names: Unlike other races, who generally have specific traditions for names, the madilar ability to change form has resulted in a near-infinite set of names taken from all the races they encounter.
Appearance: Typically tall, slender, dark haired and attractive, even in their natural form, madilar have mismatched eyes and abnormally pale skin that hints at their doppelganger roots. It is usually at puberty that a madilar discovers his ability to change himself into any small or medium sized humanoid.
   

Madilar Racial Traits

+2 Wisdom, +2 Charisma, and -2 Strength: Madilar are very perceptive and sociable but lack the strength other races have.
Medium: Madilar are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Normal Speed: Madilar have a base speed of 30 feet.
Low-light Vision: Madilar can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.
Rogue Merchants: Madilar receive a +2 racial bonus on Appraise and Bluff skill checks.
Changeling: Madilar can use alter self once per day as a spell-like ability. The caster level for this effect is equal to the madilars class level. This ability is limited to humanoid forms of small of medium size.
Shadow Magic: Madilar add a +1 to the DC of any saving throws against spells of the shadow subschool that they cast. Members of this race with a Charisma score of 11 or higher also gain the following spell-like abilities: 1/day— Ghost sound, Pass without trace, Ventriloquism. The caster level for these spell-like abilities is equal to the madilars class level.
Languages: Madilar begin play speaking Common, Undercommon and Madilar. Madilar with high Intelligence scores can choose any language they want (except secret languages, such as Druidic).
