On the world of Ilvorth, magic, and its consequences, defines the history and peoples. On other worlds, magic is wielded by a select few who master weird gesticulations, combined with nonsensical vocalizations that alter the nature of the universe around the caster, and perhaps the eye of some difficult-to-defeat creature is thrown in for good measure as well. There are similarities on Ilvorth, but here the source of magic was once a strange rock called Gristle. A soft, brittle substance that crumbles to dust at the lightest of touches, gristle was the material component required for every spell that was cast on Ilvorth. If you have no Gristle, you have no magic, but if you have Gristle anyone can have magic. The problem is, about a thousand years ago the King in the East stole most of it....
