Karhu

Karhu are intelligent bears who wander the world having all manner of adventures. They have a reputation for being calm and pensive but terrifying when provoked or angered. Stalwart to a fault, they can be counted on in any number of circumstances.

When meeting Karhu, expect to look up. They stand upright on their back legs, with the forepaw adapted for grip strength. However, they retain to ability to walk on all four limbs, with surprising haste.

They tend to wield no weapons (even though they can), but often can be found using armor. Magic among them is exceptionally rare, though these limited individuals often reach legendary status.

Basic Information

Anatomy

There are three types of Karhu: the agile, but smaller black Karhu; the strong and powerful brown Karhu; and the rare, but majestic polar Karhu. They are roughly the same size as mundane bears of the same breeding.

Ecology and Habitats

Karhu prefer wild environs, shunning cities. Their settlements tend to be smaller, close-knit affairs.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Fish are a primary staple of any Karhu's diet. This is supplemented by wild-grown foods, though most communities have turned to cultivating common plants as crops to feed their expanding population.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

While Karhu eyes are nothing to speak of, they have a remarkable capacity for scents. An experienced Karhu can distinguish the source of an individuals cloths, down to the location the materials grew. This detail-oriented scent makes them poor trackers, as they lose a single scent among all the details surrounding it.

Civilization and Culture

Common Dress Code

Nudity rarely matters with a good coat of fur. To be without the tools of your profession is to be naked.

History

Tales are told of Karhu heroes that forged a path through the wilds. Every settlement has their own tales, passed down orally by each generation. Historians aren't certain how many heroes truly existed, and which tales should rightfully be attributed to which hero.    Meanwhile, the tellers continue to orate their versions, knowing that the origin of the telling is far less important than how it rings in the listener's ears.
