Illangar

The Damaged World

Name

The world of Illangar and its main continent go by many names. The name Illangar is an ethnocentric name given to the world by the people of the Daulerim Empire. For them the World of Illangar represents the world during the Age of Illangar or otherwise known as the Age of Dauler, the Age after Dauler the Great united humanity following the Battle of Illangar. The name Illangar therefore refers to a city, a former Kingdom, a continent and the entire world, depending on how ethnocentric one is.   Another older name of the world is the Talimann (Daulerim). The word is related to the dwarven term Talëm "Wanderer" (Emat). The name Talimann was used by humans in different forms, it meant the world as The Wanderer in the sky. Dwarves themself call the world Termik in Classical Dwarvish. Elves refer to the world by different names in their own languages, in most cases they recognise the world itself as collective god however.

Inhabitants

Illangar is home to many intelligent species. There is a basic distinction of two groups, hominids and non-hominids. Hominids include humans, dwarves and elves. They descent from a common ancestor. Humans and elves share so called Wild-Elves as their common extinct ancestor. Dwarves are further removed from the family tree however. There are also non-sapient less intelligent hominine species, like Giants.   Besides these hominid species, there are non-hominids. One can say that there is a clear bias towards hominids in this part too, because most of the Known World is what is actually settled and recorded by hominids. The non-hominids are mostly those which interact frequently with hominids. One such species are the Koiloks, who live in the northern forests called the Forest of Dreams and the Land of Echoes. The Koiloks are an highly intelligent ursine species, living side by side with the northern humans.   Besides them, another well known non-hominid species are Draconids. They are mostly known from their conflict with other species however. Their behavior and nature seems alien to many other species. Yet there are also draconid individuals on amidable terms with other species.

Geography

The continent of Illangar is the only known continent within the world of the same name. To its west lies the great Forbidden Sea, to its South the Dreamless Sea. In the east it ends in the vast Lands of the Giants. Its exact dimensions are unknown to the people within it, the nature of the world itself makes it impossible to everyone to exactly measure it.   It is unknown what lies beyond the borders of the known world as nobody has returned sofar. Even the ancient Elves speak of the two lost tribes of Eandu and Kutek, who ventures beyond and were never seen again.   Illangar harbors a wide variety of different landscapes. It can be partioned itno three. The West, the North and the South. The West is home to the Daulerim Empire and the Empire of Illodia who are the two dominant powers of the Second Age.   Further south to it lie various realms of the Dwarves, followed by the vast desert called the Wastes of Time. Even more to the South lies the cursed land, formerly belonging to the Geleter-Elves, which is now called the Sound of Corruption.   Closing to this begins the South and the remnants of the Kaolai Empire. Passing the southern tip of Illangar one enters the Dreamless Sea, which is still ruled by the polities of the Kenatan-Elves. East to them lies the subcontinent upon which the Yupanki-Elves have established their everlasting Empire. From there on west again, right in the centre of Illangar lie extensive jungles, the Forests of Bao und Jumaa, home of the Southern Dwarves.   From thereone north we enter the great central steppes called the Plains of Gorn, home to many orcish tribes. Now we are entering the north, home of the Koiloks, humans, aswell as many dwarven polities. This area is mostly dominated by extensive woodlands and boreal forests untill one goes as far north as the arctic tundra itself.
