Celebration of Books

History

The Celebration of Books was a holiday formed by priest by the name of Evelune from a Library of Celle in the City of Gold. She noticed that several members of the community were unable to read or didn't have access to books. To respond to this, she invited as many people as she could to her own residence that were unable to read where she had kept a large number of books. She spent the day teaching and reading to as many people as would come. Other priests came by to help and cook food and drink for everyone who showed up.   Many of those people would return to the Library after that day to continue learning to read, seeking out Evelune who had given them a thirst for reading. On the same day each year, she would invite all the people who had joined her before, and more to partake in the reading of books. It became such a large occasion that the Library of Celle eventually started hosting the event. Evelune would read to a crowd of people, proving to everyone to be a masterful storyteller.   As she got older, it became harder for her to do the readings and started to have others do the honors. However, she would sit in the crowd with everyone and listen to the reader and help out with teaching people to read. On the day of her death, the Conclave of Races announced that the Celebration of Books was to become an officially recognized holiday.

Execution

The Celebration of Books follows a very loose tradition. The only common tradition is that one should partake in the consumption or telling of stories. When celebrated alone, simply remembering to enjoy reading a book is sufficient. In larger cities, a single person will read a book to an entire crowd. The most lavish versions of this is when the reader is accompanied by a Theater of Sirrus to have illusions and actors play out the story silently.

Participants

The most important figure in the celebration is the Reader. They are amember of the community with the ability to read that reads a story to the crowds.
