Order of the Martyr

Formed to worship those that died during the rebellion. Somerston Key used to have a Opal Drop-Leaf tree that gave power to mages that resided on the island. For many years the mages preserved the land and took care of the tree, as a result the people prospered. In the beginning of the Divine War, rebels hunted down as many drop-leaves as they could. Arriving at Somerston Key, the mages protected the land as long as they could, many giving their lives in the process. Unfortunately, the rebels had technology that could beat magic, eventually leading to the capture and death of many mages. The leader of which was made a spectacle of her death, which is the creation of this religion. Originally from Somerston Key, many of the mages that fled brought it with them and it spread across Iedar Tegon.

Culture

Used as the scapegoat for basically any misfourtune that occurs, mages that are part of this order are heavily prosecuted and outcast from society. Living off the grid in abandoned churches, they practice their art of magic and do their best to help society from the background. Raina White was one such mage who on her own, investigated the source of the corruption. Despite the violence against those of this faith, they will never stop trying to help their society.

History

While this order was created by mages many decades ago, it only became a "religion" practiced by mages after the rebels took over Somerston Key in 860 CE. After their leader was murdered in the town square, many mages fled the island bringing the religion with them. Now, the Order of the Martyr can be found all over Iedar Tegon. Still inhabiting old churches as their main headquarters, they added religious practices to their daily lives. Giving thanks and a small offering to their leader who was killed, they will burn small amounts of oil as a symbol of both their creation, and their never ending dedication, even in the face of adversity.

Help without recognition. Help even with persecution.
