Drop-Leaf Origin Story

Created by the Users of Olde when this world was born, the Drop-Leaf tree is the original source of magic in Iedar Tegon and its surrounding lands. These trees would drop gems of its respective species, the most common being silver, gold, and emerald. The more rare speices were sapphire and opal. The opal tree is the most powerful of them all, and therefore the most sacred by magic users. The intent behind their creation was as a place of power, or worship if you will, for magical beings. Some making very large pilgramages to see the tree and take one of its gems to bring home. Some having healing powers, and others being used in what ever way was needed to help.

Those put in charge of caring for the Drop-Leafs across Iedar Tegon realized that what was created as the purest magic was being used for greed by kingdoms. Farming gems from the trees and selling for profits, the trees started to become sick and die. As a protective measure, the protectors put a spell, forcing what once were real gems, to become hallucinations. Preserving the power and magic within, they were no longer able to be used for the good of the world, as real gems no longer fell.

During the War of the Divine, these trees were hunted down and destroyed by the non-magic folk to prevent magic users from being able to use the power and revolt once again. As such, these trees have been hidden away and kept secret if they were able to be saved, the only known opal drop-leaf was recently discovered on Somerston Key. Being cared for and cultivated by Elendar Jhalavar himself, he has spent many decades trying to revive and reproduce this beautiful and unique gift to the magic community.
