Pharmacist
Pharmacist is a title given to particularly devoted members of Tamel's family. They generally serve as police and are given a higher standing of living than the Children below them. Another duty given to Pharmacists is the distribution of Pellets, a sedative and hallucinogen designed to keep the populace complacent.
Above all however, a Pharmacist's duty is to keep the populace alive. Each is specialized in one or more of the following -- Needles, bindings, powders, vials, blades, and pellets. Each has a different medical purpose, whether it be surgeries performed by those specialized in blades or the restraints and tourniquets created by those specialized in bindings.
Characters who aim to become Pharmacists can do so by gaining reputation with Tamel's Gracious Family. Letters are organized and sent by Father Crokus' emissary, Kier. These letters are initially sent as requests for an audience with the Family, but eventually take a turn to threatening demands and kidnapping. Becoming a Pharmacist is hardly a choice, regardless of how civil Kier and Crokus seem at first.
Pharmacists live a modest lifestyle and are given free lodging and moderate quality food in one of only three stone buildings in Tamel (the others being the Raven's Crematorium and The Palace of Corvids). They are generally regarded highly by those native to Tamel, but people from other districts just see them as more glorified slaves. They spend ten hours of every day patrolling the streets with no real hope of a break, and the biggest benefit being the extra profit in coins and pellets they can get through extorting their lessers.
Pharmacists are provided with a waxed black cloak, studded leather armour, and a plain white mask modeled after an owl, raven, crow, or magpie. Higher ranked Pharmacists are given silver or gold trim on their cloaks and more decorated masks, and select few are promoted to become Brothers.
