  • Council Meeting

24th of Flamerule, 12:00   The Party met with the Council of Termalaine and discussed the previous events.   They learned some information about who the spirit might have been and were offered a reward for their help.   In an effort to keep the party aligned with the town and tie them down, the council offered them a mansion as a base of operations as an optional reward, or a lump sum of 2500gold in tourmalines that were meant for the south, but are now blocked due to the pass being closed early.
The party chose the mansion known as Coldbane Manor.   Additionally, they received a sum of 3000 silver and 200 gold as a base reward in a large chest.

    Checking out the Mansion

24th of Flamerule, 13:00   The current caretaker, Seebu Marss led the party to the old Coldbane Manor to have a look over.   The mansion was owned by the landed knight, Sir Xavier Coldbane, who died about a year ago and had no next of kin, so his possessions were left for Termalaine to manage, who had no purpose for the building.   The mansion is surrounded by a metal fence with slightly deteriorating stone pillars. The mansion has 3 stories that taper off with each level.
All the windows are triple paned, aside from a couple that have broken over time and not been replaced.
The first floor many many small windows, letting in a lot of light, but also keeping the panes small and efficient. The second story has larger windows, but not overly so.   The party scoured the mansion in search of various bits of information, and among various other things, found a couple of curiosities:
  • A blackened bed in the master bedroom on the 3rd floor
  • A set of full plate armor for a taller gentleman, with the Coldbane crest on the chest, which looks like a road leading to a snowy mountain, with the words "The Bane of Cold, the Light of Darkness", written in dwarven runes on the bottom edge.
  • A dungeon with multiple cells and a back secret entrance to a torture chamber that hadn't been used in a very long time
  • Later on in the day, the party registered an LLC in their name and the contract was signed between the LLC and the town of Termalaine, through the council representative. As well as requested the services of a couple of employees to manage the place.

    Funeral of Oarus Masthew

24th of Flamerule, 15:00   The party had the opportunity to take part in the funeral of Oarus. As expected, it was a closed casket funeral.   A surprisingly large amount of people attended, led by a cleric of Kelemvor. The ceremony was strange and foreign to the party, thus they knew not what it meant.   At the end of the event, they managed to have a few words with a pair of frost druids that had also been in attendance, and supposedly respected Oarus.
In no uncertain terms, they told the party to stay clear of the north.

    Post-Funeral Chwingas!

24th of Flamerule, 16:00   As Exo'six a.k.a. EX-06 had been quite annoyed by not finding a single chwinga, he took out his lantern in anger and lit the flame within, resulting in a discoloration - there was indeed an elemental somewhere nearby!   They tracked them down to the middle of nowhere, where a tiny snowhouse had been created and someone could be seen mucking about inside. It seems the chwingas had created themselves a home and were playing around with cutlery stolen from the town, most likely.   A small cultural exchange took place, in which Hex shared a meal with the little critters and ended it by talking into their minds, which drove them away.   They parted ways amicably and headed off to deal with the mansion and then take a rest, with Minerva deciding to use the services of the inn they had been staying in for days.

A random doggo and the Velryn Family

25th of Flamerule, 09:00   In the morning, after a good meal, Minerva started making her way to the others, when she was stopped by an exhausted dog, who came in from the east, seemingly from out of town.   The pup told her that its master had gone missing and that he needs help and directed her to their home, which was a townhouse with a detatched workshop, owned by the Velryn Family.   Keegan Velryn was in their workshop and ran over to see what's up and Minerva and the dog - Boy the Dog let them know what had transpired. Keegan begged Minerva to help them, but had no way to pay them for it, to which Minerva immediately agreed and headed off with the dog to seek out the rest of the party and ask them to join her.

On the Road to Kelvin's Cairn

25th of Flamerule, 13:00   Due to the nice weather, the party was making good time towards the cairn and could see it looming and growing larger in the distance.
At some point, they noticed a pair of white moose walking behind them in a distance, never getting too close. Also there was a small mount of snow moving after them.
They kept an eye on them, but didn't know what to make of the creatures, so decided to carry on.   Shortly after, seemingly out of nowhere, a large owl stood in their path, and when spoken to, turned into a strange human figure, who was leaning heavily on a staff and was clad in dark clothes. Their overall visage was somewhat weak and nonthreatening and they asked what the party was planning.
Upon hearing that they were on a rescue trip to save the owner of the dog that was with them, and seemingly the druid was aware of whom they speak, they seemed satisfied and let them continue on their way.   The party saw the pair of moose follow them up until reaching the cairn, with the owl perched upon the antlers of the moose that had glowing antlers.

    The Cairn

25th of Flamerule, 16:00   Thanks to Boy the Dog, the party was able to find the correct path through the crags of the base of the mountain, whilst not falling into the large crevace that is The Dwarven Valley.   It was difficult to traverse, but they made their way to the eastern side of the base and eventually found the base camp, where the rest of the dogs lay together.   They released the dogs, which ran towards the closest town and looked over the remaining resources and left their things there to climb the mountain.   Boy the Dog was not included in the climb, which was probably for the best. They could hear him howling at the bottom for the entire climb.

    Finding Garret

25th of Flamerule, 18:00   After a small meeting with a potential avalance location and some goats, the party located a small snowpile next to a rockslide halfway up the cairn. Investigating it more closely, they found it to be a tent under a load of snow with a small opening at the front.
The tent contained an unconscious Garret, who was barely alive and seemed to be suffering from hypoethermia.   They started a fire with their resources next to him and were looking around the area, when they were jumped by a group of crag cats, who almost grabbed Hex and took him out, but the party easily disposed of them and gained a dead cat body.   There was also some confusion with the bag Aabel had found and a meeting with a talking boar and a falling Pho.

    In Search of the Adventurers

25th of Flamerule, 19:00   Garret let them know that he was leading a group of adventurers to the cairn and they were attacked by a yeti, whom he led away from the others and fell, causing injuries and he was unable to rejoin them.   The party climbed further to look for them and the climb was very difficult for Minerva and Hex, but they eventually made their way up to a large cave opening, which was clearly the home of a yeti. There were multiple footprints at the mouth of the cave.
There was a large yeti and a smaller one in the cave. The tiny yeti was playing with a groaning halfling by using them as a ball of sorts.
Thanks to Hex, the party managed to convince the yeti momma inside to exchange the toy for the body of a crag cat and they got the halfling out alive.
The halfling told them that their leader was dead, but the tiefling got away and they should look for her.   They moving further up the trail that the tiefling likely took, and sure enough, they found the frozen corpse of a tiefling and a dwarf in a small plateu, which had a great view towards the north and east.
They found a spellbook and some potions on the tiefling and nothing particularly of note from the dwarf, but the view was amazing.   Far towards the north, they could see a lit dome, as a beacon in the night. Nobody knew what it was, but it was far.   Heading back, they came across a very large yeti, who was tracking their scent. It was carrying a bloody mountain goat with ease and was curious for more meat, but with the smooth tongue of Hex, they averted disaster and managed to sway it into not crushing them.

    The Avalanche

25th of Flamerule, 20:30   The party headed off the mountain with their two wards and accidentally released an avalanche. Most of the party got out of the path in time, including those carrying or holding onto the injured adventurers, but Minerva and Hex were pulled along with the avalanche as it rushed by the narrow ledge they were on.   It took some time, but they managed to locate and dig out Minerva fairly quickly, largely thanks to Boy the Dog, who ran over to her location.   Hex, on the other hand, was another matter entirely. He was down there for way too long and by the time they would reach him, he would be dead.
Luckily, the friend Hex had made yesterday was there, and gave him the ability to summon a beastial spirit out of nothing, which he immediately did, to help him climb out of the compact snow, as a large polar bear carved the way.
Aabel had already found his likely location and was surprised by a polar bear emerging from the snow nearby, but at least everyone was alive and well.   With the party still tired, they went over to the campsite to dig out an area under the snow where they could comfortably rest and gain access to most of their supplies. They spent the night bundled together next to a blazing fire, as a blizzard roared outside.
