Soul Stone

As he surveyed his new domain, newly lost souls began swirling around him, waiting for him to determine their final fate. He reached out to a particularly bright wisp, one he recognized as one of Sevrin's generals. He grasped it in his sinewy hand and crushed it until it turned to stone. Malthrax brought it to his mouth and devoured it.

Soul stones are physical manifestations of the essence that surrounds Malthrax. They can only be shaped when bound together by the soul of a creature. The first soul stone was created by Malthrax shortly after he ascended, follwoing Sevrin's defeat at the hand of The Twins. While Lor and Evolere had upheld their end of the deal they made, he still did not trust they would not turn against him in time. These stones act as a source of divine power for the god of the dead independent of the moons of Lor and Evolere.

Usage

Spellcasting

Soul stones have numerous uses to powerful mages, angels, demons, devils, and other being of incredible arcane and divine strength. Should one strike a bargain with Malthrax himself or be fortunate to find one belonging to someone who did, they can be used to power the most powerful spells known, replacing the material components of these spells entirely. It has also be theorized that these could even be used to cast spells that surpass the current limits of spellcasting. Due to the rarity of these stones, there is no record of such spells being attempted.

Unholy Immortality

The creation of soul stones opened up another possibility to the truly ambitious: lichdom. While previously possible, the spell used to transfer one's soul into a phylactery was nearly impossible to cast. By using the soul stone, this spell became much simpler to cast. Since the ascension of Malthrax, the number of immortal liches as risen at an alraming rate. Luckily for the world, using the stone in such a way is a breach in the terms of the contract with Malthrax, who will send his brokers to hunt down and destroy the abominations.
