Naivara Character in Iaforis | World Anvil

Naivara

The man turned the corner into an alleyway. Had Rothald been spotted? It didn't matter, he was too close to figuring out what was going on. If this was a trap, he would just have to fight his way out. Hand on hilt, he followed. Ahead of him, concealed in the shadows, stood a silhouetted figure. A soft and familiar voice entered his mind.   "Hello, Captain. Please, come with me; we have much to discuss."   They stepped towards Rothald and out of the shadows, removing a strange wooden mask and revealing a scarred and mangled face. The elf woman from the orphanage? What was going on?

A former slave who earned her freedom in blood, Naivara is the secretive and reclusive leader of the Children of Avarice, a group of former orphans bent on bringing down the government of Foxdale.

Goals and Motivation

In 311 OA, Naivara led a slave uprising against House Palcus of the Talic Empire. In doing so, it was the first time she was free since she was a small child. She fled aboard a merchant ship bound for the West. The following year, after eight months at sea, she set foot on the docks of Foxdale. For a time, she was at peace and felt in control of her life. In time, it became apparent that slavery wasn't the only form of suffering the ruling class could impose on those below them. Poverty and starvation were rampant in the city walls and iolent crime led to overcrowded orphanages. None of these problems were answered by the High Council.   She tried her best to soothe the pain of the young at the Children of Avarice Orphanage, but in the end, there was always another child about to enter the doors for the first time. It was when she met the young Lilia Hall, who had taken a particular liking to Naivara, that she decided it was up to her to save the people of the city like she had done fourteen years earlier. Naivara has a singular, seemingly impossible goal–see to the downfall of the High Council of Foxdale and the guilds that bouy it. She knows that as it stands, the poor of the city are in no position overthrow the government.   Instead, she opted to train and educate the orphans she helped raised to fill very specific roles. She was able to get several of her children into College of Foxdale, where they were able to learn the arts of enchantment. Using these skills they were able to enchant the last remaining coins Naivara brought from the East. These have become the most powerful weapon in her arsenal, allowing her to read the minds and even control the actions of anyone in the vacinity of a coin.
