Ahaggar Species in I Wish I'd Paid More Attention to the Lore | World Anvil

Ahaggar (/aːça.ɡaːɾ/)

Ahaggar hail from the spirit world. Mortals often consult with them on matters of lore and divination.

Original Concept by Jeremy Hart
One of the three choirs of the Third Tier god Liborh, the Ahaggar are natives to the spirit world. Their domain connection to mirrors makes them one of the easiest spirit world creatures to summon that has the power and knowledge to answer questions about ages past.   They are a nuetral faction but will often interfere in mortal affairs if their divinations point towards widespread destruction. Although often called divination, the Ahaggar are not actually capable of such magicks. Rather, their impressive memories and knowledge allow them to accurate predict large scale events.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Ahaggar are serpents. Their long body ends in a spiked tail and begins with a terrifying maw. Their jaw is hinged horrizontally and filled with razor sharp interlocking teeth. They have two eyes on either side of their jaw which are surrounded by prehensile whiskers that they can use for fine manipulation. Since the Ahaggar are spirits, while in the material world, they can fly supernaturally.

Behaviour

Ahaggar are not particularly malevolent and when summoned will answer truthfully, or refuse to answer at all. They will occasionally possess a willin host on the material plane in the rare occurance that they have plans for us mortals.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

In addition to the Spirit Vision all denizens of the spirit world possess, Ahaggar have a special sense granted to them by the authority of their patron. Ahaggar are able to see through any reflective surface within a few dozen meters of their body. Mirrors and also clear reflections provide the best image, but anything cna be used, including the eyes of most material creatures.   The Ahaggar also possess a hive mind of sorts, connecting them to every other member of their species. This is not unusual for spirit world creatures, but the Ahaggar posses a particularly strong link. They have a collective memory and intelligence, allowing each of them to utilize the full processing power of the species if they so desire, as well as perfectly recall the experiences of another as if they were their own.

Civilization and Culture

History

The 3rd Theomachy was a particularly blood one. The legions of the Ahaggar were once told to have been able to blot out the sun, but now only a few thousand remain. Most died in defense of their patron, Liborh, The Grandfather Serpent Who Watches Over Our Dreams, who died during the war. After his death, the Liborh withdrew from the world and separated from the other two choirs under Liborh. Since then they have remained outside the spotlight of history.

Ahaggar

An Ahaggar can make one attack per turn: one bite attack (1d10 piercing), Compel Astral Projection, Primordial Lightning, or a counterspell or dispel magic from Linked Intelligence

  • Compel Astral Projection Anyone within 20m of an Ahaggar can be compelled to leave their physical body and appear before the Ahaggar's true body in the spirit world. A save vs spells is allowed if the target is unwilling

  • Terrestrial Projection An Ahaggar can project their body outside the spirit world once per year. Unless this projection possesses a willing host, it will suffer from the penalty of Spirit Body. The Ahaggar will have all of the hosts abilities and retains all of its own save Mundane Damage Immunity. If the host is killed, they are expelled but remain in the material world.

  • Primordial Lightning Three times per day an Ahaggar can summon a strand of primordial lightning from the spirit world. A target within 50m must save vs traps at a -4 or take 3d10 electrical damage, which bypasses resistance. Creatures killed by this ability have their soul destroyed. While in the spirit world, an Ahaggar can use this ability at will.

  • Linked Intelligence Every Ahaggar is connected through an astral hivemind that is not limited by planar barriers. This grants them access to vast amounts of knowledge including ancient and intricate knowledge of the inner working of magic which grants them the ability to counterspell any common spell and rip the magic from lesser artifacts.

  • Mirror Authority Ahaggar can see through any reflective surface within 40m of their projection or 200 meters of their true body. If they are called out to by name, they can appear in any reflective surface in the universe, though mirrors are the easiest.

  • Mundane Damage Immunity Ahaggar are immune to damage from mundane sources

  • Spirit Eyes Ahaggar are able to see souls. As such, unless specific preparations are made, the Ahaggar can see through all invisibility and magical disguises on sight. They can detect all souls within

  • Spirit Body Ahaggar belong in the spirit world. Every 24 hours outside the spirit realm imposes a 1d6 max health reduction which is restored upon returning to the spirit world. They also suffer -2 to all rolls while outside the spirit world.

  • Spirit Mind Ahaggar can sense all souls within 100m and communicate telepathically with them by communing directly with their soul. They cannot be unaware.
