Vinegar and Syrup Tonic

The syrup tonic is an interesting bit of medicine, for years, a millennia even, people have used honey in tea to aid in the treatment of sore throat's. This tonic condenses the power of honey and adds a boost from un-distilled fruit vinegar increasing it effectiveness, though, it probably doesn't taste as nice.
— A unnamed medical alchemist

What is a Vinegar and Syrup Tonic?

A vinegar and Syrup Tonic is a small medicinal shot created to aid in reliaving of sore and itchy throats. They are made, as you may have guessed, by warming a small amount of honey and vinegar until steaming and are taken as soon as the concoction is cool enough to drink. To Increase the effectiveness the shot is taken by gulping it down quickly so more honey coats the throat rather than the mouth.

History

The home remedy of honey and tea for a sore throat has been around a while, and is proven to work. However, when a throat is especially irritated one may wish for an even more potent cure! That is how this was developed, by the elderly mother of an alchemist, her son had taken ill from an inadvisable experiment involving a bunch of soup and standing in freezing rain and was suffering the consequences. So Tired did she become of his moaning she devised a cure to shut him up about his throat using only household staples. Going into her kitchen she used every ounce of matronly knowledge and spite to create a masterpiece. She took honey, for its coating and soothing properties, and Vinegar, for its immunity boosting properties (and sourness), warmed it and had her son take it as a shot. It worked so well they shared the recipe around and it soon reached the whole land of Menerv.

  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Food safe lavender oil (optional)
  • Water

  Hardware

  • Hot water kettle
  • bowl
  • shot glass or other small glass that can take some heat
  •
Gather all of your hardware and ingredients together and start some water to boil. As your water is heating up put a small amount of honey and vinegar in the shot glass and place it in the bowl. If you are the type to use essential oils medicinally put one or two drops of lavender oil in the shot glass as well. When the water is hot, but not necessary boiling pour it in the bowl so it warms the honey inside the shot glass and makes it easier to drink. Gently swirl honey and vinegar to ensure that it is all warm and runny. Drink quickly as to get maximum honey on throat coverage, if you use lavender oil it will in fact taste gross but should help with irritation.
