Royal Recorders

"The greatest power the Royal Recorders had was being beneath notice. That was how they got away with their treatment of people like me for so long." - Ciara the drake, former record keeper.
The Royal Recorders are a scribal organization in Lunis  that serves the royal family. Members of the Royal Recorders are known as record keepers. Their main function is to protect, make copies of, and update a record of Lunan history known as the Royal Chronicle of Lunis. It is updated when the reign of a king comes to an end.   For generations many nobles sent off unwanted children to be raised as record keepers by the Royal Recorders. Those raised by the Royal Recorders were taught to have minimal individuality, to view themselves as only tools. This was brought to an end by King Fintan, who banned the practice of the Royal Recorders taking in children and applied a minimum age for record keepers.   Fintan's successor King Eamon further reformed the Royal Recorders by making it possible for any member of the populace to apply to become a record keeper, one of the main requirements being literacy. The new chance for social mobility led to an overall increase in literacy amongst the common people of Lunis. King Eamon also expanded the responsibilities of the Royal Recorders to include recording Lunan oral stories and the history of other countries.
