Khulagalag
Overview
Finely woven bags and wooden combs with the intricate shell inlay of the Motsaandu tribes have become fashionable in the courts of the Reaches, and traders from The Guild have set up a tiny trading post on the tip of the Motsaandu Peninsula. When
Twice a year, an official trade expedition comes to the site, called Khulagalag by the locals, and the traders set up camp. They do not need to announce themselves; within days, the Motsaandu tribespeople will begin to filter out of the forest in small, well-armed groups. The tribes people are always excruciatingly polite, and the traders have learned to behave the same way. What
The people of Motsaandu purchase iron bars from Thrine, finely woven cloth from Fotier, and bright chemical dyes from Rothilimion. They will typically buy simple knives from the traders, as well. In exchange, the tribespeople bring wooden combs, buttons, and small panels covered with intricate carving and shell inlay. They bring strange, shimmering hides from the forest creatures. Though they never sell any of their own weapons, they bring back the knives purchased on previous visits, upgraded with exotic leather sheaths and elaborate shellwork on the handles. And they bring the traders bushels of Lich Peppers, too hot for most people to touch, let alone eat, but a favorite among the lizardfolk of Maapera. How
The traders have learned not to carry weapons in front of the locals, not to expect the same tribespeople every visit, and not to land except during the designated seasons. Expeditions that break these rules do not always return to their home port, but right now the profit from the "shell trade" is good enough that the leaders of The Guild expect everyone to follow the rules.Related Articles
