The Eve of the New Moon
The Eve of the New Moon is observed widely in this region. Held on the evening before a new moon is predicted to occur, the celebration commonly entails music, dancing and other merry-making among the general population.
There are many cultural practices associated with the Eve of the New Moon. Scrying of various kinds is also particularly common on this day, due to the cultural association of the moon being a keen observer not held back by a limited viewpoint. It is said that children born on the Eve of the New Moon will be academically gifted.
The Crescent Ball
Although the upper echelons of society would claim not to celebrate the Eve of the New Moon, most Steadfasts nonetheless hold a ball on that same evening. This ball, called the Crescent Ball, is closely tied with the hierarchy of Huntresses as it is on this occasion that various honors, ranging from the promotion of a recruit to a proper Huntress or the attainment of a higher rank by a Huntress, to the appointment of various personage to special positions such as the appointment of new judges, generals, scribes etc. In some Steadfasts it is also use to make important announcements related to the noble houses, such as engagements. After the ritual part of a Crescent Ball, wherein the affected parties are called onto a stage to receive their honors, dancing and drinking commences and continues late into the night.Aftermoon
It is common, though not obligatory, for Huntress recruits to get a day or two off after the Crescent Ball. This period, which is usually spent visiting family and friends in the city, is colloquially referred to as the Aftermoon. Active Huntresses generally have more freedom with where to spend their time than recruits do, but it is nevertheless common among them to chose an extended Aftermoon as their time off from work if their assignment allows.
