Waystones

Traversing old roads and pathways can be treacherous if you aren't careful and watching your everystep. Not every road is well maintained and there are many things travelers should be wary about when walking unfamiliar roads.   However, not every stone on the path is a death sentence, one in particular is often seen as a blessing to weary travelers.
Waystones, also known as traveling stones, are large blocks of decorative rock, generally placed at key points along roadways to mark distance, road hazards or significant prior events within that specific area. In certain places, some regions have thematic or religious waystones, often depicting political or patrons of religious faith. Throughout the world of New America, especially around more southwestern territories, one may have the pleasure of running into peculiar standing stones.
Some petroglyph maps, depicting trails, as well as containing symbols communicating the time and distances travelled along those trails, exist; while other petroglyph maps act as astronomical markers.   As well as holding geographic and astronomical importance, some petroglyphs may also have been a by-product of various rituals- what these rituals might have entailed is anyone's guess as many of the potential religious groups and/or cults have been lost to time, however frequency of small variants of these ritualistic stones dotted across the landscape in some northern territories suggest a prevalent history of them being used as altar's for various means, with many of the stones etched in such a way to display either deities or constellations.
