Collegetown

Collegetown is a location in the Commonwealth. Established many years after the war with the help of their steward, Edward Deegan, Dr. Menace had started Collegetown as a place where people who wanted to practice science but did not want to do so under the tutelage of the Brotherhood of Steel, could safety do so. Its grown a lot since its humble beginning and has now become a bustling community.

  • Once a marketplace prior to bombs, this area was fixed up and is now mainly used as a Classroom
  East of Faneuil Hall
  • Once Christopher Columbus Park, it is now a nice park with vine arches, mutfruit plants, a playground, and some radstags. In the vacant spot where the Christopher Columbus statue once stood a Deer Statue now stands here in its stead. The stag statue in the park is dressed up in various outfits to reflect the season and the holidays.
  Valenti Station
  • An underground Subways station whose secrets have recently been unearthed. Past rubble has been removed revealing the station platforms still intact underneath, this area has now been turned into private living quarters for Jeremiah, Will and their respective pets. What lies beyond the tunnels is a kept secret to outsiders.
  Cabot House
  • Impromptu Mayor's house, the actual official place where paperwork and stuff gets done is the Customs House Tower but everyone just calls the Menace House "the mayor's office" and it drives Red MAD
  Westshore Hospital
  • A teaching hospital that ended up just accumulating like the most sophisticated tech and treatments in the area. The Main go to for retrieval quests.
  Doc Soames Mini Clinic:
  • Soames Clinic is the local clinic of Collegetown and the working place of Dr. Soames, a pre-war ghoul. A Small clinic, Soames clinic is on the opposite “lonely side” of town, perfect for the privacy many wish to have during the healing process.
  Collegetown Library:
  • Books from all over the commonwealth call this place home. While the library primarily hosts medical and science textbook, other books call this little slice of paradise home, all itching to be read.
  Collegetown Labs
  • Fairly new to Collegetown, projects rang from simple to exorbitant, from distributing safe, clean chems to researching a vaccine against tuberculoidin. The lab is mainly split into different departments from Virology to Bio-Science.
  Cabot Street housing
  • Staff from the labs moved in with their families in the area surrounding the Cabot house. As more and more people came to know of this little organization that would soon be known as Collegetown, everything from the water to Haymarket Stall to Faneuil Hall was occupied by people who came to learn and mingle with like-minded, scholastic peers. Soon The place quickly became ideal for attracting travelers from far away, riding in on caravans destined for the neighboring cities who opted to take a detour to check out what the hub of brainiacs had to offer.

Collegetown Eyebot

RobCo's always had an eye for robotics, and this little fellow is no different! — Museum sign at the REPCONN headquarters
Eyebots are aerial spherical robots, slightly larger than the human head, with a loudspeaker and electrical zapper on the front and several long antennas protruding from its top and back. Throughout Collegetown, several repurposed Eyebots recovered from the streets and refurbished can be found roaming around their respective streets. Occasionally sputtering out music for whatever radio station they happen to be tuned into at the time, they provide the streets with ambience.   During times of Emergency, All Eyebots stop playing music and will be put on a standby mode as Radio Transmissions or Emergency Broadcasts are echoed through their speakers. Unlike its Mojave counterparts and even some of the Boston Variations, these version of Eyebots seem to have much more emotion and seem to even developed feelings and learned behavior.   One Eyebot named Clicker seems to support this theory. Clicker has often been observed occasionally ramming into the antlers of male Radstag or “butting heads” with females, often for minutes at a time during his patrols around the garden. While at first people feared this as faulty programing or aggressiveness on Clickers part, it was soon determined that Clicker was actually engaging in Play Behavior with the mutated deer, as he often vocalized what could only be described by technicians who were brought out to investigate, as “Joy” or “Happy” noises when he would finally disengage from the deer and return to work. It it unclear where exactly this behavior came from as it was not pre-programed into him.   One theory which has since become common ground, suggests Learned Behavior, where Clicker would often observe the Ragstag during his patrols at certain moments and “Copy” the behavior he observed accordingly. When the Deer did not react aggressively to Clickers advances, Clicker would then repeat the behavior until it was satisfied or the Deer stopped engaging with it. Since this discovery, many people find enjoyment in watching the interactions between the robot and the animals, often expressing joy in the “Adorable Reactions” and odd friendship established between the odd pairing, as it would also seem that Radstag will come up to Clicker to engage in play, often chasing the Eyebot or bumping heads with it.

Trivia

  • Collegetown is known to be home to many dangerous individuals, including The Red Menace themselves. Rumors also have it that a good number of former coursers reside in the town, hiding in plain sight, but ready to defend the town in an instant should the need arise.

  • Despite being labeled as enemies, Gunners Triggerman and Raiders do not actively attack the settlement. Instead they focus mainly on attacking the Caravans who enter the town limits. At certain times, the player may have to aid the city guards in the watchman towers by the main-gate by keeping Raiders and the like at bay so the Caravans can get to the settlement safely.

  • Attacking any animal within the settlement may result in quick action by the wandering guardsmen.

  • Fortifying the town walls may become a requirement as time goes on, to keep the Malefactors from decimating the settlement.

  • The Brotherhood of Steel, unlike common enemies like Raiders and such are constantly hostile towards the settlement. With Collegetown keeping up the BoS restricted behavior of gathering and disseminating technology, as well with the worst kept secret that Collegetown has poached some BoS members on top of harboring some remnants of the institute, the BoS will actively raid the settlement more often then the other enemies.

  • Passive Feral hounds as well as other canines may be seen wandering the streets of Collegetown alone. These dogs are the cities guarding dogs who wander around parts of town that are Officially Sanctioned. They will actively aid the player in defending the settlement similar to Dogmeat, by attacking enemies, or alerting to a enemies presence.

  • Players can interact with the Dogs and the Domesticated Rad-Stag, by petting them or feeding them treats. Please remember a happy animal is a Happy Settlement, angry animals may become rowdy and disruptive.

  • The Direct path in Bunker Hill (marked on the map in yellow) will lead you to one of the main gates of the settlement. The second Main Entrance can be found south by the corner bookstore. The old parking lot which can be found close by is used by Caravanners to let their Brahmin and other pack animals rest from their long journeys. A similar thing can be found by the entrance to the North, though the structure only holds a limited amount of animals, as it is mostly used for Will’s large vehicle, which often drives on the Skybridge.

  • Collegetown is very friendly with the Minutemen and Goodneighbor, and also with a bunch of farming settlements including the Slog and Graygarden, who’s inhabitants may show up from time to time to sell and trade their wares.

  • By coincidence, or perhaps not, the safety of the town has also blanketed the railroad HQ. With all the hustle and bustle around, it seems hard to notice the activity coming from one lonely church. Maybe no one will notice the new starry eyed newcomers. . .
