Assigning Weapons in Hummel Quest | World Anvil

Assigning Weapons

A tank without any weapons is mostly helpless. Even without a working weapon, you can inflict ramming damage, but in HUMMEL QUEST, every tank character should have at least one weapon. During character creation, you can pick one for free.

FIELD MANUAL

Equipping and un-equipping weapons is a major modification that can only be done by a mechanic or in a workshop. Visit one of those to change your setup!
Upon assembly, every tank is equipped with a simple cannon that matches its frame. Along the way, you will encounter more powerful weapons. For examples of weapons and their statistics, see Weapons.   Theoretically, every tank could equip every weapon, but in practice some limitations apply.   Every weapon has a Size rating, which cannot exceed the Size score of the tank that equips it. For example, a weapon with a Size rating of 1 can be equipped by every tank, but a weapon with a Size rating of 5 requires the tank to have a Size score of at least 5 to mount it.

Furthermore, if you mount multiple weapons, their Size ratings are added together when counting towards the limit. This means that a tank of Size score 5 could have one Size rating 1 and one Size rating 4 weapon, but not a Size rating 2 and a Size rating 4 weapon.

FIELD MANUAL

Tank parts are heavy, and so are tank cannons. Unless a lot of tanks join forces in picking up and moving any such parts, it’s usually the smarter idea to just steal transport the whole tank and have a mechanic take it apart for the desired equipment.

SIMPLE CANNONS

You can choose from these weapons when creating a Level 1 character. A higher-level starting character may have access to other weapons from the list in Weapons. Talk to your MM about this.

FIELD MANUAL

The below table shows the statistics of every starting weapon. The Firepower column indicates how much Dur score of the target the weapon can ignore when shooting. The Damage column shows the number of d10s rolled to determine the DT damage, and the number of d10s whose lowest value is counted after the slash.

Some weapons reload longer than others. See Weapons for more info.   Simply note down your starting weapon on the second page of your character sheet. If you are unsure which one to pick, you can try checking out Combat for more in-depth info about how weapons work in practice.

HULL-MOUNTED WEAPONS

Cannons are generally assumed to be mounted to a turret. However, a cannon can be fitted into the tank's hull. Note this down as a “special rule” for the weapon on your character sheet.   The tank can only use such cannons to shoot targets that are at least partly within a 90° radius of an imaginary line normal to its mount. A hull-mounted weapon's Size rating is decreased by 1 as long as it remains hull-mounted. The Size rating cannot be decreased below 1 by this. Any weapon can be equipped as hull-mounted, and it retains the special rule for as long as it is equipped.
