Oghmania Settlement in Humble | World Anvil

Oghmania

Oghmania, a.k.a. Oghma's Retreat, is a small settlement at the edge of The Frozen North. It was founded by Osnaghar as a base of operations for his exploration of The Frozen North.

History

Osnaghar claimed he had a vision about a library of great importance, but it was frozen over. At the time, The Frozen North was but a simple label on the most detailed maps. When Osnaghar talked about his vision with King Alexander XII (the 12th), he received funding and resources for his mission to find the library. He was also assigned a number of people to found the settlement as a base of operations, which Osnaghar called Oghma's Retreat.   Located at the edge of The Frozen North, Oghma's Retreat is not a place for regular folks to visit. It's also nowhere near the Aleksondrièl Empire. When rumors started to spread, people started to call the settlement Oghmania, because of how idiotic the whole ordeal was. This didn't deter Osnaghar one bit. It also didn't stop adventurers, explorers and map makers from taking this opportunity to explore the frozen wasteland.

Industry

Since Oghmania was founded for the exploration of The Frozen North, all industry is focused solely on that pursuit.
  • The smith mostly crafts spikes to wrap around your shoes.
  • The woodworker crafts sleds, both for fast transport of humanoids and for explorers to take resources with them on long expeditions.
  • A husky breeder and training keeps the husky population growing strong. This to replenish any huskies that are lost or die along the way. Or it allows them to expand, having more husky packs to rent out for would-be explorers.
Besides industry, there are also those who share their experience. Some serve as trainers, teaching the newly arrived adventurers on how to survive in the cold snowy and icy regions. This includes how to survive encounters with preditors. Others serve as mercenaries, working as guides or guards, selling their services if the price is right.
