ESS Happy Days

Written by Mel'Aad
After meeting one of the "Humans" on board the Hiknoid space vessel, I was invited to travel with them around the Beta sector. It didn't take long for me to board the spacecraft the "Humans" used for their travel, although it didn't look anything like the normal spacecrafts I was used to seeing. When I cautiously asked captain Hayes about it during my tour of the ship, he told me the ship was based on a very old model of spaceships the "Humans" used called a "space shuttle". This vessel is more streamlined than most larger passenger or cargo ships seen in the CGS.   So far I've had the pleasure of being able to freely move around most of the ship. The only area that has restricted access is the back side of the vehicle, during my tour captain Hayes explained that there all the technical systems are located. I've freely explored the rest of the ship. This model has three distinct decks, as shown in the map I've made and embedded in this page of the UDS. The upmost deck is the place where my room is located. My room consists of a bed and a hygiene unit, as far as I've deduced there is a second, foldable bed in this room which can be folded down to create bunkbeds, but that bed is currently not in use. There is a large window on the wall opposite my bed. This deck also holds another guest room, a large observation deck and the captains quarters.   The main deck is largest of the three decks and is home to most of the living quarters. The front of the main deck contains the helm with the pilot's private quarters. Behind that there are living quarters with a cafeteria, a gym, a lounge and a "movie theater". At the back of the main deck are the private quarters of the crew members and four shared hygiene units. Al furnishings are very functional and made to get the most out of the available space. The crew called the style "modern". The cargo deck is smaller than the main deck and contains two cargo bays at the front of the ship. It also holds four smaller travel ships, and a small research facility. To travel between the decks there is both a elevator as well as a stair system.   When I asked one of the crew members about defense systems, they seemed quite surprised by the question and preceded to explain about the material that could withstand all kinds of things on γ-F5-23. With what I know about γ-F5-23 being a 1-C7 planet I assume it has the highest protection of all ships I've seen around the galaxy. For that reason I haven't dared to ask about the offensive capabilities of this ship.

Well written article. I appreciate the, i dont want to say trope, but idea that earth is actually a very dangerous place according to other species. also good job on the map, not a lot of people have made their decks different sizes. Also, guests/passangers not being allowed in the technical areas reminded me of when we had visitors on the submarine i served on (who were not allowed in engineering spaces) and you included a gym! Good job overall and entertaining read.

Feel free to stop by some of my WorldEmber articles if you want. My favorites are The Book of the Unquiet Dead, Outpost of the Moons, and The Emerald Hills. Feedback is always appreciated.

Thanks for the compliments! I'd say earth being dangerous is a trope at this point, but a very fun one to indulge in for a hobby project ^^

This is a very confusing layout, to me. At first glance it looks like there is only 1 paragraf. then a metadata button and comments, It was only because of the comment of drunkenpanda about a map that I figured out the top box was scrollable. But then I had an enjoyable read.

Thanks for the comment! But that's not good, one of those things where I know it's scrollable so I don't see a problem, but good that you mention it, I'll fix it to make it more clear :)

Nice article, I like the way you've presented it from an alien visitor and seeing the different cultural perspective :D The style of your map also goes very well with the world, well done :D

Thank you for the compliments! Yeah, this whole world is written from the alien perspective as that sounded like a fun challenge ^^
