The Ice Ring

Purpose / Function

No one knows exactly where it is (unless you're an HSA Agent with the right security clearance) but the Ice Ring is the hole they are talking about, that they will throw you in and you'll never get out of.  It's the rumor that they tell children to get them to behave.  It's a place no one is really sure actually exists.  But it does, and it's terrible - the worst kind of prison known to man.  Buried deep under the Sanderstone Mountains

Alterations

This once state-run prison, which once sat as a giant stone fortress on top of the mountain was disassembled and rebuilt as an Homeland State Authority  facility buried inside the mountain in the year 4012 due to security concerns following The Third World War .  At that time, the public, who was full of war-weariness was told that the prison would be disbanded (and not that the Homeland State Authority  were rebuilding it as a shadow prison that would henceforth be impossible to escape from.  Almost all serious threats to HSA and continent security are kept here now - people who just seem to disappear off the face of the planet - there has only been one successful escape in the prison's history, including it's former life as a stone fortress and no one has ever been released from the prison on good behavior or time served.

Architecture

The Ice Ring prison is a 28-story cheese maze configuration monstrosity. The only way the guards and support staff can find their way around the building is with nano-GPS guided helmets that tell them exactly which turn to take (and sometimes they still end up lost). The cells are all single prisoners, and with thick soundproof walls and no windows, and a door that never opens to let the prison see the guard bringing them provisions, the sense that you are the only one around imprisoned there is inescapable.  The cells are 100 sq. feet with a single bed on one side of the room, vaulted about a desk and chair (all bolted to the ground) with a treadmill on the other side that the occupant would need to use to provide themselves with electricity for the day.  The smallest of bathrooms is tucked at the back of the cell, separated from the main part of the cell with a folding accordion wall.  A set of cameras watches the prisoner inside at all times.

History

The Ice Ring is the second oldest prison on the continent (the oldest being the keep at the Stone City Sanctuary - but that is never talked about as a prison anymore, as one of the continent's oldest religious pilgrimage sites).   Other black site prisons have been built, but the Ice Ring has always been reserved for the worst of the worst.
