The Snowcrow Palace Building / Landmark in How to Live in a Fantasy World | World Anvil

The Snowcrow Palace

A massive manor, glistening white from marble. Three floors and over a thousand of rooms. The Snowcrow Palace is the 'humble' estate of the House of Acedia. The Snowcrow Palace is the seat of power in Crowald.

Structure

The manor is split into multiple sections, there is enough space to have a studio or workshop for all of the professions in the world. From the third floor, stairs lead to an observatory. Additionally there are hundreds of vacant bedrooms used by the family and any potential visitors.   The servant's quarters are also opulent, although the rooms are more packed and less spacious. The estate employs over a 100-servants around the year, not including the guards. The guards and knights also have their own quarters, including a large armory and vast training hall on the northern side of the estate.   The indoors have a warm creamy-white, red decor with polished mahogany and leaf-gold used with most of the furniture. The building is especially famous for its countless large windows that signify wealth and great craftsmanship. Most notable example of masterful glassworks is in the ballroom, where half of the ceiling and an entire wall is made of glass. The dwarven glass-smiths of Crowald are an envy at the capital.

Geography

The palace has a large yard that spans in a radius of over 4 km. It is surrounded by the The Black Forest from all sides. The King's Road travels southwards towards the city of Crowald. Only the southward facing side has a long spiked metal fence, the grounds are surrounded by a thick treeline on all other sides. The journey to the estate using the King's Road is rather idyllic and it hides away the looming presence of the surrounding forest land, giving off an illusion that the county consists of mostly bountiful fields and meadows.   Close to the estate there is a large opulent garden and an elaborate hedge-maze. Multiple marble statue and myriad flowers decorate the garden, which has been said to be over a 1000-years old.   There is also a secondary road that leads to the servant quarters, hidden by decorative bushes. This enables resupplying the estate somewhat secretly. The main purpose of this is simply to not let the visitors see any commoners loading supplies through the servant's quarters. This road cuts through a thick forest, hiding any transport behind it. Eventually this supply route that goes through The Black Forest leads to Crowald.

History

The history of Snowcrow Palace is one of the only records, permanently redacted from the church books. It was built (or transported) after [Redacted]. All that is known is that Marianne Von Acedia create the Snowcrow Palace, and that her influence over the church was so powerful that despite of the near-perfect record keeping, almost all of the records about the House of Acedia were stricken from the records. The level of censorship was so thorough, that the records of the entire bloodline before [Marianne von Acedia] has been shrouded in mystery.   The only history that the broken church records reveal from time before Marianne Von Acedia is that there used to exist a manor hundreds of kilometers to the west. However, the church has not been able to find any physical evidence of its existence. Moreover not even the inquisitors dare to touch at the redacted documents, in fear that the secrecy is above the level they are permitted to know.   Regardless, after its establishment, the Snowcrow Palace has remained as the seat of power for the House of Acedia, and its current head is Charles Von Acedia who is the 49th successor.   The Crowald was established same time after founding the Snowcrow Palace. The first centuries of church record keeping of Crowald were heavily neglected. And some of the records were secretly added centuries later, against the church's strict record keeping policy. While there is no official link between the House of Acedia and The One Church, the inquisition often turns to the House of Acedia for help when there is suspicion of demonic activity.   For records outside the church's there exists nothing until for the last 600 years or so. Only the House of Acedia personal library consists of records that go as far as the church's records. However, those records are also redacted until the 6th successor began to document history again.
