Cold-Blooded Selkie Species in How to Live in a Fantasy World | World Anvil

Cold-Blooded Selkie

A selkie species native to Glacial Sea and Lake Kelpie. They are larger and stronger than normal selkies and they can survive in extreme cold. They are believed to have been the cause, or at least have attributed to the disappearance of the whalers in the Glacial Sea and Lake Kelpie.

Description

Roughly the size of a human teenager, they resemble a humanoid, though their fingers and toes are webbed together, making it easier for them to swim. It can be difficult to discern from female and male, as both have very feminine features, the females have slightly larger chests, however the difference is difficult to make. From distance the creatures can be confused with merfolk and mermaids, their beauty like with all selkies can lure unwary victims near the waters only to be dragged bellow and drowned.   The Cold-Blooded Selkies have extremely cold bodies and they rely on viscous mucus that dissolves ice. Their bodies have a pale blue hue which is often darkened by the black oily mucus they excrete. Often, if they remain unblinking for too long, water in and near their eyes freeze, forcing the selkie to blink. The Cold-Blooded Selkie are known to eat humans and other fish. They are believed to be mostly carnivorous.   Cold-Blooded Selkies are not known to be capable of speech or communication with humans or other species.hile individually they are weak, the Selkies live in groups and are no stranger in using tools or primitive weapons. They rarely venture anywhere alone. Their hunting tactics are cowardly and rely often on ambush and surprise, overwhelming foes with great numbers. Their remote habitat makes study of this subspecies of Selkie nearly impossible. There have only been a very few encounters with these creatures.   The Cold-Blooded Selkies also appear to be able to cooperate with other species in the Glacial Sea. They are known to have appeared alongside with an unknown species of a kraken. However, it is not known, if this is simply coincidental or not. Regardless the Cold-Blooded Selkies are considered dangerous monsters and threat to humans.
