Okubyou & Emiko

Okubyou & Emiko (a.k.a. The Bunglingly Bashful Brute & The Lonely Little Lass)

Mental characteristics

Personal history

To fully grasp the tale of Okubyou, you must first understand what an oni is and how one is created. Oni are large ogre like demons that come in a variety of colors, they were once people but due to their wicked acts were transformed into horrible looking creatures that continue to plague the lands with their cruelty.   Okubyou, a name given to him by other oni due to his cowardliness and yellow complexion, was very different. Despite his large size and great strength he was easily frightened. He'd often stay clear of other demons based off their appearances alone and on more than one occasion jumped at his own reflection upon viewing it in a calm pool of water. Not only was he easily frightened he wasn't all that competent either in fact if it wasn't for Emiko he most likely wouldn't have survived at all.   Emiko is a small girl who grew fond of Okubyou and his silly antics when the lumbering creature came stumbling into her cottage destroying it. This act caused Okubyou great stress for he never intended to wreck the small cottage he only wished to escape the fast and menacing creature that possessed great and powerful horns. It came up to him face to face and pressed its dastardly wet nose to his! Once he calmed down, he attempted to put the structure back together but it simply wouldn't stay. Meanwhile on top of some of the wreckage sat the small child who giggled at him as he lifted one of the sides of the cottage only for it to crumble on the opposite end. Normally hearing such a deadly wail would have sent Okubyou fleeing back into the forest but when he looked at the girl he felt a sense of ease.   Never having a real friend, although that was mostly due to Okubyou's tendency to run first investigate never, he jumped at the chance to talk with someone. Together the two sat at the destroyed structure and just spoke to one another. They told each other of their favorite food. Emiko insisted sweets were the best although Okubyou never had not tasted any. They told each other their favorite colors. Okubyou had never thought about it before but he liked Emiko and she was wearing pink so that was his favorite color. He told her tales of all the scary things he had seen during his existence... although most of them simply made Emiko laugh for some reason... he didn't understand why. While she went on to tell tales of all the people who use to come to the cottage and that they would leave her yummy sweets but eventually people stopped coming and she became lonely... That was until Okubyou showed up which made her happy again.   Their conversations continued until Okubyou's stomach began to rumble and he knew he had to leave to find food. She could tell the large creature was frightened to go back into the forest and she herself was afraid he may never find his way back. That's when Emiko asked to accompany Okubyou. This made him very happy as he wouldn't have to face all the scary things in the forest alone and Emiko could help him make sense of things that would often confuse and frighten him. Before they departed the cottage she insisted that before they go that Okubyou wrap her favorite floor mat around himself like armor so that a piece of her home was always with them. Okubyou agreed and began lifting part of the home away from the flooring and removing the large mat from the room. Once wrapped around him Emiko as quick as a flash appeared on his shoulders startling him. Emiko giggled and just like that Okubyou calmed. Together they ventured into the forest where that leads them neither knows, but they know they are better together than they ever were apart.
